Romney’s silence on Chick-fil-A may cause voters to ‘simply stay at home,’ Donohue warns

LAS VEGAS, August 7, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Mitt Romney’s decision not to condemn mayors threatening to deny Chick-fil-A the right to do business was a missed opportunity and may cost him votes in November, a growing chorus of social conservatives warn.

Last Friday in Las Vegas, when a reporter asked the Republican presidential nominee about the controversy over Chick-fil-A and charges about a diplomat’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, he replied, “Those are not things that are part of my campaign.”

After company president Dan Cathy said he supported Biblical marriage, homosexual organizations called for a boycott, and several prominent Democratic mayors threatened to withhold permits for the Christian business to operate in their cities. The fast food chain broke sales records during the August 1 “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” called by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Christian radio talk show host Bryan Fischer asked, “Well, governor, exactly what was not a part of your campaign? The part about natural marriage? The part about freedom of religion? The part about freedom of speech? The part about freedom of entrepreneurship? What? If you will not publicly stand for those values, what will you stand for?” These questions were echoed by talk show host Mark Levin.

“Social conservatives have to make up their mind whether they should just simply stay at home, or go out there and vote for Romney,” Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, said. “I’m astonished that he couldn’t even come to grips with the question. Leaving gays out of it, do we want the chief executives, the mayors of large cities trying to intimidate, using the power of government against private enterprises whose politics they disagree with? I think it’s a pretty simple issue.”

Click “like” if you want to defend true marriage.

Several conservative writers confessed to being flummoxed by Romney’s absence, calling it a “missed opportunity.”

“I don’t understand why Mitt Romney doesn’t just get his Secret Service detail and take his press corps down to a Chicken-fil-A and show solidarity with these people,” said columnist and former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan. “It’s instinct. Reagan would have walked right on down there naturally.”

To excite the party’s base, Richard Viguerie, a conservative activist for more than 50 years, has suggested the GOP invite Dan Cathy to address the Republican National Convention. “Republicans should oblige President Obama’s desire to make same-sex marriage a central issue in the November election, and campaign unequivocally as the party of the traditional values Dan Cathy stood for,” Viguerie wrote.

Even prominent members of the party’s neoconservative wing, which has little time for social issues and generally supports the homosexual lobby, encouraged Romney to stop at Chick-fil-A. “Didn’t happen,” wrote Bill Kristol.

Some supporters of same-sex “marriage” have defended the beleaguered chicken chain.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a social liberal who considered running against Romney as an independent presidential candidate, said “it’s inappropriate for a city government or a state government or the federal government to look at somebody’s political views and decide whether or not they can live in the city or operate a business in the city or work for somebody in the city.”

Congressman Barney Frank, who recently “married” his boyfriend, agreed, “I don’t think government should discriminate against Chick-fil-A because of the views of the owner.”/

Even Antoine Dodson, the flamboyantly homosexual subject of a viral video, has said, “A lot of people from the gay community was [sic] actually telling me not to eat at Chick-fil-A and then you know, I started having these flashbacks, because I started believing like, the gay community — we have went [sic] from being bullied to becoming bullies,” he said. “And I don’t think that that is fair, because I’m like, aren’t we like in America? Like, we have freedom of speech.”

“I don’t think it’s American,” he said.

We know at least, that Mitt will abandon our Constitution

Nice to finally see that being admitted, freely and openly.

Authoritarian types?

I have not asked him or anyone to stop posting any point of view. Diogenese has used the same photos and illustrations in hundreds of posts for many months.

I am simply bored seeing them over and over and over. It’s like seeing spam at this point.

Why not some new and different photos and phrases in his attacks on Romney? It was just a request. That’s all I’m saying.

Nope and nope. It is a ridiculous argument.
A non vote for Romney does not increase the votes for Obama or who ever
A non vote for Obama does not increase the votes for Romney or who ever
A non vote for who ever does not increase the votes for Romney or Obama

Well, oops on that one. Am not a Mitt fan; but do not think he will abandon our Constitution. Well; he will not 'shred' it; at least. . .Meantime; we work on getting a solid core of Conservatives in power and in all levels; local, State and National. . .and they will become the force behind Mitt.

(If Obama takes it; he will have his own MO to take them out; or just down. . .)

America’s fate is already sealed. It’s just a matter of who can manage the decline better. A free-fall collapse or a managed collapse.

Well; you may be right; in which case; 'managed' would be preferable; IMHO.

That said; however; believe the 'point of power' is always in the present; and that at any time; if we have in store the 'will' to resist and the will to reclaim and restore; and focus determinedly; then do believe we can pull out a 'save' for America.

More than pathetic; that we have no one in 'prime time' recreating the vision needed. And those; like Allen West, Marco Rubio and a few; including Sarah Palin and yes, Newt; and a few more; are all but pushed to the curb; in favor of what appears to be the vision impaired, 'flat line' of Republican leadership.

This isn’t about how liberal we perceive Romney....

Yes in fact, it is.

I’m voting for the person most likely to win against Obama.

Kinda like McCain, eh? Why in the hell would you think that Romney can beat the incumbent liberal when they are fighting over the same base of voters?

This is about the destruction of the U.S. for generations. Kids nowadays not willing to take a risk because of the policies set out by this administration. People going bankrupt and losing hope. Terrible crimes and shootings because we are becoming a nation without morals.... look around.

So... How does voting for Romney fix all that? Especially if he isn't standing upon the morals you claim to want to preserve? Why? Because he'll make the trains run on time?

Your logic is so flawed as to be rejected. Fear is clouding your judgement. You dont fix this country by replacing one liberal/marxist/socialist/globalist with another.

“A non vote for Romney does not increase the votes for Obama or who ever”

The fact is that a non vote for Romney does in fact increase the chance that Obama will be re-elected.

And really that is what this argument is about - do you want to increase the odds that Obama will be re-elected or not ?

From your attitude to date you are fine with increasing the odds that Obama will be re-elected.... just live with it.

It is a moronic assumption on your part that I want Obama reelected.
I want neither liberal as president, Romney or Obama.
We can say based on your posting that you want a liberal as president, I do not.

Really - how long have you been campaigning for Obama ?
“Why in the hell would you think that Romney can beat the incumbent liberal....”

Romney has never been president so you don’t know what kind of president he will be.... BUT... you do know what Obama is. So I think it is your fear of the unknown that is clouding your judgement.

My comments are based on what kind of president Obama is and obviously will be, fact, Your fear is based on perception.

You are increasing the odds that Obama will win a second term.... I hope your guy loses.

Somehow, I don’t believe that the people who flooded the Chick-Fil-A last week are going to be staying home on Election night to help Obama get re-elected.

“We can say based on your posting that you want a liberal as president, I do not.”

Or put another way I don’t want Obama at all - your ok with him if you don’t get “your guy”.

Kinda makes more sense and I don’t have to call you names...

Really - how long have you been campaigning for Obama ?

I am not campaigning for Obama. Your typically Republican binary assumptions are not true.

Romney has never been president so you don’t know what kind of president he will be.... BUT... you do know what Obama is.

LOL! No, he hasn't been president, but he has been a governor, which should be a pretty good indicator - And his 'accomplishments' as governor are not far removed from where Obama is. You seem to forget that Conservatives put far more weight upon a candidate's record, because the record is more honest than a stump speech ever will be.

So I think it is your fear of the unknown that is clouding your judgement.

I see nothing 'unknown' in Romney whatsoever. His record predicts his future actions.

My comments are based on what kind of president Obama is and obviously will be, fact, Your fear is based on perception.

The facts of Obama are precisely the same as the facts of Romney: Their records, neither of which is even vaguely Conservative in any way. Both are globalists. Both are socialist/marxist. I don't vote for liberals. Period. Again, this country will not be fixed by replacing one liberal/globalist/socialist/communist with another. Even if he does have a magic rhinestone 'R' by his name.

You are increasing the odds that Obama will win a second term....

Only if one assumes that Romney can win. Like with McCain, I doubt that very much. Just the matter of the Christian Right is enough to cast doubt upon any win at all - He will not win without them... And I will comfortably predict they will not be 'with him'.

I hope your guy loses.

I don't have a 'guy'. I will vote for Hoefling or maybe Goode, if they make the Montana ballot, but there is no way in hell I will be voting for either Obama or Romney. Their pro-choice positions ALONE insure that, among many other things...

That depends a lot on who those Chick-Fil-A folks were - They are being hawked as free speech proponents and civil libertarians... And while I do not deny that element, I believe those folks were by and large the vast Christian Right. I do not believe that Christians will be voting for pro-choice, pro-gay candidates any time soon.

“I’ve been here at FreeRepublic for a very long time, and I thought I understood how we think here, our ideals, how we feel about America. If we don’t excise the cancer in the WH, we won’t have America as we once knew her. Not voting for Mitt Romeny is the same as voting for the lying Kenyan usurper who squats in OUR White House.”

Well, Jim Robinson had the following to say on July 30th...tell him he is “voting for” Obama by not voting for Romney:

“Well, I’m not staying home, but I’m not voting for no damned abortionist/homosexualist statist either. I will not cast a vote for the chief architect of ObamaCare (Mitt Romney)!! I’ll be voting straight conservative!!”

“That’s something in his favor and something he can say he shares with Ronald Reagan.”

Oh, but Ronald Reagan didn’t take orders from the East Coast Country Club GOP Establishment or from Cult Leaders in Salt Lake City. Romney answers to both!

“You’re more worried about Romney than Obama. That’s wonderful!!!”

Actually, he is right on the mark. Obama has the potential to destroy the country. Romney has the potential to destroy the country and conservatism.

On Nov.6, I will vote for him but then I will have to go home and take a long shower with bleach, lye, Lysol and antibiotics.

I tried that with McCain, but the stench still lingers to this day - every time that anti-American communist scumbag opens his mouth.
