Many conservatives have criticized the health care law Mitt Romney signed while governor of Massachusetts — and his new running mate Paul Ryan is complainer-in-chief.

The law, which requires most Massachusetts residents to obtain health insurance or face a fine, served as a template for President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act — a fact the right has not let Romney forget. Continue Reading Text Size

Ryan, who has built his GOP street cred up with his own health care and budget ideas, has been vocally against the Massachusetts law for years, a key reason many believe he was tapped for Romney's VP slot.

Here's a highlight reel of his objections to Romney's health care program.

This was one of my first thoughts as well. Now how do they play this as it will be a target point.

Ryan will say he has “evolved”.

I guess the Romney camp thinks Obama will have a hard time running ads featuring Paul Ryan bashing Romneycare, as such would also be a bash on Obamacare.

But they probably underestimate the hypocrisy of the left.

Those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it.

What did Bush I call Reagan’s plan? “Voodoo economics”.

How did that work out? I want EVERYONE here to answer my question.

EVERYONE: Stop the little girl pantshatting, and stop the pantshatting NOW !!!

That is the problem of the state of Mass. They wanted it, and they got it. BTW, what would have happened if Romney would have vetoed it? Was there enough votes in the Mass, legislature to override?

Obama care, was NOT wanted, and was shoved down ALL OUR throats by the worst crookery ever committed in this nations history.

OMG! You mean Romney doesn’t demand EVERYONE think the same way HE thinks?!

He welcomes ALTERNATE opinions? Oh, the HORROR.

I'll pass. Romney is a worse candidate than McCain was and trying the Palin gambit a second time around is a sure fire loser.

As a matter of fact, Romney DID “line item veto” several provisions of the health law he signed.

The DEMOCRATS overrode most or all of those vetos, though.

Good question. George H. W. Bush shut up about supply side and supported the president. And what is Romney running on? Ryan-onomics. Controlling spending, keeping taxes low. Romney---as the DEMS ALREADY SAID---is linked to Ryan's budget.

GOOD! GOOD! GOOD! That is exactly where he should be instead of some mystical neverland. Great pick.

You mean St Mitt's ideological soulmate.

If Mitt is our squish gov's soulmate, why did he pick such an intentional budget cutting, fiscal genius socon for his running mate?

Snyder would have never done something like this. He's never been the tough nerd he campaigned on, but it looks like Romney actually has full intentions of undoing Obamacare, dealing with entitlements and getting us back to a fiscally sound footing.

I can handle that, I can get behind that.

I still don't trust Mitt, but this is a big time step towards showing us a genuine business mentality in dealing with the bureaucracies and the out of control budgets.

Paul Ryan = Scott Walker, not slippery slope slimy Snyder.

I’m no fan of Romney, but Picking Ryan was an excellent choice for five reasons:

1. It shows us that Romney understands the economic Armageddon we are approaching and that serious economic reform is needed to avoid that cliff.
2. It shows that he was paying attention to Ryan’s legislative suggestions over the past years, sound and good suggestions that are bold and in the right direction — suggestions largely ignored by the Democrats and the establishment
3. It shows he’s paying attention to the conservative base.
4. He could have chosen a “token” VP running mate simply to appeal to some special, minority class of voters (a woman, a racial or ethnic minority, etc.). Instead, he picked a “white male,” which many in the government-media industrial complex will attack as being anti-woman, anti-minority. This tells us that Romney wants to put together a team that will fix the problems, not one that will have only popular appeal. It also tells the conservative base he’s not going to play those “I’m PC and hip” games. This also shows us that he is confident in winning this race without having to play those cheap political games.
5. Ryan is an excellent voice for going after the left on ideological grounds and destroying their arguments. Romney’s pick of Ryan tells us that he’s not going to play the “kid glove” games that McCain and the rest of the establishment have been playing with Obammie the Commie.

All in all, a very good pick by Romney and I give him credit.

As I’ve stated over the past years, though, I don’t think financial Armageddon can be avoided at this point and that we are facing a global depression that will make the 1930’s look like the Roarin’ 20’s. My fear is that the collapse will occur (or will be made to occur) when the Oval Office is occupied by those the socialists/fascists/communists can call “free-marketers” or “Capitalists” and that they will blame the collapse on Capitalism and a free-market economy, shifting blame from where it belongs: the Statists and their socialist/communist/fascist economic policies.

Because he knows that most republicans have all the brains and integrity of of your typical Obama voter. But just think, the saintly GOPe can blame Paul Ryan for the Romney loss.

So, if that's actually true, why didn't he just pick a RINO nosocon, spenditall squish that all us brain dead people would just go along with?

Snyder would have.

He’s certainly right about Romneycare. Mini-Obama took MA for another spin in the death spiral this week, when they passed statewide price controls.

By making him VP Romney has put a straight jacket on him. However impressive he’s been in the past ( and I am VERY impressed by Ryan) he is now Mitt lite.

That just comes with the job.

What did Bush I call Reagan’s plan? “Voodoo economics”.

Yes, he was an idiot for doing that.

How did that work out?

He won, with little or no pushback from the GOP (unfortunately) Then he sucked a few more times after that.

EVERYONE: Stop the little girl pantshatting, and stop the pantshatting NOW !!!

It's too early in the morning for you to be that drunk.

So you are comparing the historic and wonderful American system of economic freedom to the feculent cluster-bleep that is RomneyCare?

I want EVERYONE here to answer my question

OK, here it comes....

GET OFF MY COMPUTER, YA BIG DOPE!
