The alternative to Mitt Romney
Tea Party Nation ^ | August 12, 2012 | Judson Phillips

Posted on 08/12/2012 1:40:22 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In some conservative quarters, the question is still being asked, “What is our alternative to Mitt Romney?”

Some people are suggesting voting for the Libertarian Candidate or even the guy from the Constitution Party who may only end up on the ballot in one or two states.

There is an alternative to Mitt Romney, if you are looking for one.

Who is it?

It is Barack Obama.

No, that is not a joke.

Absent some almost unprecedented or at least unpredictable event, next January in Washington, it is either going to be Barack Obama or Mitt Romney standing on the stage taking the Oath of Office.

It will not be Gary Johnson and it will not be that clown Virgil Goode from the Constitution Party.

Here are your choices. It is either A or B. It is American versus Marxist. It is Romney versus Obama. It is that simple.

If you decide Romney is not pure enough for you and you decide you want to vote for the candidate who believes the most pressing problem facing this country is the legalization of drugs, then you are voting for Barack Obama.

If you choose to vote for the Libertarian candidate this year, you are voting for four more years of the Party of Treason in the White House.

If you doubt me on this and think your vote does not matter, I refer you to Florida in 2000. Ralph Nader pulled 97,000 votes in Florida. Most of those people would have undoubtedly preferred Al Gore to George W. Bush. Gore lost Florida by 537 votes.

Yesterday, Mitt Romney pulled a stunner. His selection of Paul Ryan was a complete surprise to me. Prior to yesterday I was almost certain that his choice would be Rob Portman. The others I feared were in the running were Tim Pawlenty or Chris Christie. Had Christie been the choice, it would have been as bad a pick for Romney as McCain’s first choice in 08 of Joe Lieberman.

Some people, mostly Libertarians have been assailing Ryan as not really a conservative. Ryan voted for TARP in 2008 and he voted for Bush’s Medicare expansion.

No politician is going to have a perfect record. The American Conservative Union scores Ryan with a 92% lifetime record. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, if someone votes with me 92% of the time, I’m going to call him a 92% ally, not an 8% traitor.

Instead of tapping an establishment moderate, as most of us feared he would do, Romney made a surprisingly bold choice in Ryan. More importantly, he reached out to conservatives.

A few weeks ago, I said I would go into the voting booth on election day with a large and cold bottle of Pepto Bismol in one hand, a stomach distress bag in another and I would vote for Romney, praying I did not leave the rancid dregs of what was once my breakfast on the voting machine.

I lost count of the number of jury trials I did as a lawyer. In a jury trial, at the end, the jury is given instructions by the judge. There is one section of the jury instructions that I have always remembered. It said, “Do not hesitate to reexamine your own views and change your opinion if you believe it is not correct.”

That is sound advice.

I have reexamined my own views of this race and have changed my opinion because I believe my old opinion is no longer correct.

This is a battle for the soul and future of America. It is literally a battle between good and evil. It is a battle between those who revere America and the liberty and freedom it stands for and those who worship at the altar of socialism and the inevitable tyranny that follows with socialism.

I have been brutally critical of Mitt Romney over the last few months. I anticipate I will continue to be critical of him on certain issues. Mitt Romney is not the perfect candidate but we will never have the perfect candidate.

What we do have is a candidate who right now is our best hope for stopping the Obama, Pelosi, Reid axis of fiscal evil and helping to restore America.

I endorse Mitt Romney for President and Paul Ryan for Vice President. I encourage every Tea Party member and conservative to go out and support them, work for them and make sure that in January, we do to Barack Obama what he has done to so many other Americans.

We put him out of a job.

I am a ABO. So that makes me a fool? Many MANY conservatives are ABO. Sarah Palin, Paul Ryan, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum are all saying the same.... are they also fools?

I am not one to stir a rucus here. Never have and never will but I am defintely not liking to be called a " fool" when I know it is going to be ROMNEY or OBAMA. One or the other and one will lead us into captivity, and the other will buy us some time to bail out of the choke hold!

And just when did I insult you? Try reading my post again. I may have at worst, called you misinformed. I called the “Enjoy voting for Obama” post grossly unintelligent, which it is. You, on the other hand, called me a jackass.

Perhaps you should take deep breaths before popping off on a forum.

What is needed this day, are men an women with brave hearts and strong backs that refuse to chose between piles of manure!
********************************************

We did fight. It was called the primary, and we lost and got stuck with Romney. I think we can all agree that almost no one here wanted him.
However, I will take the horse manure(Romney) over pig manure(Obama) anyday.

The pig manure also comes with with a whole bunch of dog Sh**. In the shape of Holder, Clinton, Napolitano, judges, ect. Not to mention, other things like an out of control EPA.
So, you give your vote to whoever you want, but please don't make ridiculous statements about Romney and Obama being the same kind of manure.
If anyone here thinks that Romney will appoint the same Marxists, racists, and members of the Muslin brotherhood as his staff, you are really to nuts to be voting anyway. Please do stay home.

“You are being tyranized and letting it happen. THAT is a fact.”

Tyranized? That’s ridiculous. What I’m doing is dealing with the facts on the ground as best as possible. You, on the other hand appear to be in a state of denial. There are only two possible outcomes - neither is very good, but one is much worse than the other and one of them is DEFINITELY going to happen. We all need to help make sure the “much worse” outcome does not come to pass.

Either Romney or Obamanation will be president..
That is the reality of this election.
I choose to try to defeat Obama..I will vote for Romney/Ryan.
My conscience will not allow me to enable 4 more years under Obama.
You’ve chosen a different path.
We passionately disagree.
We both share a right to our own vote.

Mine wasn't a confrontational question. It was an honest one. I neither desire, nor intend, to criticize anybody for their choice.

Fair enough. It's a technique some use on this forum to elicit voting preferences from non-Romney voters. If someone then innocently divulges their 3rd party preference, they are mercilessly attacked. I grow tired of that sinister ploy. If that wasn't your intention, then I apologize.

It is only that simple if your individual vote will determine the election. Even if your individual vote detemined the state in which you are voting, your choice would only matter if the electoral college were close enough for the state to make the difference.

True, certainly, however keep Florida 2000 in mind, here.

...

I am inclined to vote for Ryan but not Romney—writing in someone else for the top of the ticket.

Of course, my FRiend, your RYAN vote will only count if you vote for both of them. Perhaps it will help if you maintain the thought that Willard (with all his faults) did select Ryan, and that was the choice that so many of us conservatives were hoping for.

Also, if you needed a reason to vote Romney, look at what he has said about re-building our Military and the critical importance of maintaining a strong defense. (And contrast that with Obama and his bff Ayers' views on gutting our defense.

It is how he operates. Bullshiite on top of bullshiite, then pings JR every third reply for cover.

I am surprised JR doesn't figuratively slap him upside the head for bothering him 100's of times daily to wha wha wha.

Oh, and watch out for the PM's, they are very strongly worded, bwahahaha.

I share the dismay of Sola Veritas, post 42, that the Romney choice dismays a staunch conservative to the point of not voting GOP, but fear not trying to oust Obama at the ballot box this November will only leave us a harder road on which ballot boxes will not be available.

Obama is not just a statist socialist, he and the wrecking crew behind him are rapidly creating a Leninist/Mao police state in which a leftist elite rule to the detriment of all who believe the US Constitution, free enterprise and Christian worship has a place in human self rule. They already have tied almost half of our population to the false promise of a government check and free health care. These fools think voting for him will make free money fall on their heads, they will end up as serfs or soylant green.

The anyone but Obama vote choice is necessary to rid our government of Obama, Eric Holder, Janet Napolitano. Sebelius, Jarret, David Plouffe and all the other jackals, hyenas, vermin and scum that inhabit the 0bama White House. This nasty pack cannot be allowed to have another four years to wreck America and our economy. Give them more years in power and free elections won’t exist, voting will be plebicites to keep Great Ruler Obama or his Clone. Anyone who does not submit will be erased or imprisoned. Armed rebellion to resist this tryanny will be met with swift and irresistable force. Big government is not a friend or your mama, it is a step towards Hitler or Stalin.

This is why I and a lot of us on FR will vote for Romney/Ryan this November.

99% will not even admit having supported any previous GOP candidate or any of the 2012 primary candidates.

...or Congressional. We will need a bulletproof Congress to keep both Romney in check and to pass the necessary legislation.

You soil the forum to give that type of rhetoric a hearing. Besides, that same lie has been repeatedly stated by ABO fools on FR. Please stop posting garbage. And please stop attempting to defend posting garbage.

2ndDivisionVet is a well respected poster here. You are not going to get him banned or censored. I don't believe you are who you say you are. Delphi much?

It is you who is willing to live in manure ,not I.

Fine for you to try to claim the high road, but you are full of manure yourself.

You love Obama, admit it.

If that wasn't your intention, then I apologize.

Apology accepted.

I don't agree with your decision, but I respect it. Thus, I won't be criticizing you for it.

By the same token, I'm voting for Romney & Ryan -- and I find that a much easier task than voting for the execrable McCain last year.

And I would hope that you and the other anti-Romneyites would respect my decision, as well.

I’m voting for Ryan.

The usurper is trying to steal my country, and I won’t stand for it. At this point, there’s no politics in it for me.

My vote is strictly personal.

Comments?

i don't know why liberals come to a Conservative site like Free Republic to wave pom poms for liberals like mitt. I don't know why liberals think that insulting Conservatives will somehow woo them into voting for a liberal POS like mitt.

My advice to you, 2ndDivisionVet, is to kindly GFY.

I think Florida actually strengthens my case in showing (1) that if it is statistically a tie, the lawyers and judges will actually be the determening factor and (2) the odds of it coming down in paper to one vote breaking a tie in a state are very very samll if Florida is the best example we have.

Of course, my FRiend, your RYAN vote will only count if you vote for both of them.

That depends on how good Willard’s lawyers are and how the judges are disposed. As one is technically voting for electors rather than for the candidates directly, there is a very good case to be made that I want the electors pledged to Ryan to be chosen, and that I would like Willard to drop dead (after making peace with his Maker, of course). In the least, it would be very entertaining.
Of course, if this vote is the crucial one, and it ends up being thrown out, the result is either slipping into a tie, or slipping out of a tie. Odds of this....

(Last go-round I voted for William Howard Taft and Sarah Palin, on the theory that if McCain wanted to be the second coming of Theodore Roosevelt, Taft was a solid pick; this time I am inclined to vote Coolidge-Ryan. I am all in favour of a governor from Mass. who understands the economy).
