The alternative to Mitt Romney
Tea Party Nation ^ | August 12, 2012 | Judson Phillips

Posted on 08/12/2012 1:40:22 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In some conservative quarters, the question is still being asked, “What is our alternative to Mitt Romney?”

Some people are suggesting voting for the Libertarian Candidate or even the guy from the Constitution Party who may only end up on the ballot in one or two states.

There is an alternative to Mitt Romney, if you are looking for one.

Who is it?

It is Barack Obama.

No, that is not a joke.

Absent some almost unprecedented or at least unpredictable event, next January in Washington, it is either going to be Barack Obama or Mitt Romney standing on the stage taking the Oath of Office.

It will not be Gary Johnson and it will not be that clown Virgil Goode from the Constitution Party.

Here are your choices. It is either A or B. It is American versus Marxist. It is Romney versus Obama. It is that simple.

If you decide Romney is not pure enough for you and you decide you want to vote for the candidate who believes the most pressing problem facing this country is the legalization of drugs, then you are voting for Barack Obama.

If you choose to vote for the Libertarian candidate this year, you are voting for four more years of the Party of Treason in the White House.

If you doubt me on this and think your vote does not matter, I refer you to Florida in 2000. Ralph Nader pulled 97,000 votes in Florida. Most of those people would have undoubtedly preferred Al Gore to George W. Bush. Gore lost Florida by 537 votes.

Yesterday, Mitt Romney pulled a stunner. His selection of Paul Ryan was a complete surprise to me. Prior to yesterday I was almost certain that his choice would be Rob Portman. The others I feared were in the running were Tim Pawlenty or Chris Christie. Had Christie been the choice, it would have been as bad a pick for Romney as McCain’s first choice in 08 of Joe Lieberman.

Some people, mostly Libertarians have been assailing Ryan as not really a conservative. Ryan voted for TARP in 2008 and he voted for Bush’s Medicare expansion.

No politician is going to have a perfect record. The American Conservative Union scores Ryan with a 92% lifetime record. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, if someone votes with me 92% of the time, I’m going to call him a 92% ally, not an 8% traitor.

Instead of tapping an establishment moderate, as most of us feared he would do, Romney made a surprisingly bold choice in Ryan. More importantly, he reached out to conservatives.

A few weeks ago, I said I would go into the voting booth on election day with a large and cold bottle of Pepto Bismol in one hand, a stomach distress bag in another and I would vote for Romney, praying I did not leave the rancid dregs of what was once my breakfast on the voting machine.

I lost count of the number of jury trials I did as a lawyer. In a jury trial, at the end, the jury is given instructions by the judge. There is one section of the jury instructions that I have always remembered. It said, “Do not hesitate to reexamine your own views and change your opinion if you believe it is not correct.”

That is sound advice.

I have reexamined my own views of this race and have changed my opinion because I believe my old opinion is no longer correct.

This is a battle for the soul and future of America. It is literally a battle between good and evil. It is a battle between those who revere America and the liberty and freedom it stands for and those who worship at the altar of socialism and the inevitable tyranny that follows with socialism.

I have been brutally critical of Mitt Romney over the last few months. I anticipate I will continue to be critical of him on certain issues. Mitt Romney is not the perfect candidate but we will never have the perfect candidate.

What we do have is a candidate who right now is our best hope for stopping the Obama, Pelosi, Reid axis of fiscal evil and helping to restore America.

I endorse Mitt Romney for President and Paul Ryan for Vice President. I encourage every Tea Party member and conservative to go out and support them, work for them and make sure that in January, we do to Barack Obama what he has done to so many other Americans.

We put him out of a job.

“You won’t call him a surrender monkey but you call me one several times? Huh?”

I call him a “quitter” not a “surrender monkey.” Surrender monkeys are much worse than mere quitters. And this is really a strange thing to be writting about.

Hey guy, I’m only rought on YOU, because I think you are OK and just pushed off track. Others here are helpless sell outs. So, I know this sounds lame, but this is my form of apology to you.

With full respect to your prior service....you have been away from the Corps to long. The Marines I know NEVER QUIT. Accepting the unacceptable is quiting. I won’t call you a surrender monkey...that is too far to go. However, I think you are a “quitter” to go along with a improperly run primary. It isn’t about being a “sore loser.” It is about an election being bought and an “establishment” rigging the outcome. That ought to make any Devil Dog mad and willing to keep fighting. Remember...Semper Fidelis?

Sola Veritas, I seriously doubt that you know any real Marines, or that you understand the deep, blood-soaked meaning of Semper Fidelis. But as to your insulting accusation that I am a "quitter" for supporting Romney now that he has won the GOP nomination... I understand the difference between a skirmish and a war, and between an ally and a real enemy.

Not one American voter was forced by the "establishment" or anyone else to vote for Mitt Romney in the primaries. Free people made their own choices, and Romney earned the most votes. Every GOP candidate who ran against Romney has now endorsed his candidacy against Barack Obama - even Sarah Palin, who chose not to run this year. Are they also "quitters" for supporting the only man who can now unseat Obama? I remember back in the 1970s when a handful of former Japanese soldiers in tattered uniforms wandered out of remote hiding places - thirty years after their leaders ended WWII and moved on with their lives. I guess you must feel like Ron Paul and Sarah Palin and Herman Cain have abandoned you, too.

We who now support Mitt Romney against Barack Obama are not the quitters, Sola Veritas. We are still fully engaged and fighting to defeat the real enemy. If you will not oppose Obama by voting for his opponent in November, what is your actual plan for victory? If you have abandoned the electoral process, what is your strategy?

Our nation is in a desperate fight for its survival, and the onrushing enemy is inside our wire. While most of us are shooting at the enemy, you are shooting harmlessly into the trees because you don't like the leader that a majority of us has chosen. If there are enough people like you - who refuse to fight when the enemy is at our front - we will all be destroyed. If you sit out this election, or waste your vote on a third candidate in a two-man race, you will be the quitter.

I see Mitt Romney as the firewall to the destruction that will be wrought from a second Obama term. Tell me, if your two major party choices were Adolf Hitler or Hubert Humphrey, which lever would you pull? That’s how I see it. If you don’t, drive on.

Well said, friend. This exercise reminds me of the wise old adage about wrestling in the mud with a pig - sooner or later you realize that the pig likes it. With that, I’m going to hit the rack and live to fight another day...

You soil the forum to give that type of rhetoric a hearing. Besides, that same lie has been repeatedly stated by ABO fools on FR. Please stop posting garbage. And please stop attempting to defend posting garbage.

Spot on SV!

What would be the scenario if one or both opposing candidates were unable to attend the election?

Say for instance Obama is deported to Kenya, Romney has a debilitating stroke, rocks fall from the sky, sinkholes appear, The lord decides that 2012 is the year to “clean the chalkboard” or we get a visit from an alien species?

For some reason I have been getting vibes that everything is becoming too dynamic, nothing is fied, certain or iron clad.

So if Obama is gone and it Biden vs Romney then what?

If Romney is gone will Ryan be allowed to take over?

Too many people are just so darn fixated with events being cast in stone, I disagree. I see a big changeup on the horizon, a storm is brewing and is about to blow from coast to coast.

Thankss jch10.

But what if they deny being a Lib but keep blathering leftist nonsense? It’s like if my labrador whispered in my ear every morning “I’m a cat, right?”. No, he’s a dog and so is she. I can’t take it anymore. And I also refuse to abstain from talking “politics” with said Lib and others whom I know...I’ll talk about whatever the hell I want to.

Some witch from the McCain campaign later claimed that they wouldn’t have let Sarah Palin actually become vice president had that ticket won.

You see thats the problem with this nation, their is old families politics in play, doesn’t matter how much the people chant for a conservative leader the “Old GOP” will have the final say.

Yes you are right on, they knew Sarah Palin had a snowballs chance in hell of becoming VP.

As its been said, the fix is in, so go ahead and fight amongst each other you are not strong or smart or culturally evolved to be of any importance.\ this generations old political force within Americas elite is saying.

Actually they won’t say it, its like saying good morning to cockroaches to them.

I worked hundreds and hundreds of hours as a volunteer for the Polk County (Iowa) GOP back in the mid-eighties. One day they gave me the elephant lapel pin they normally give to the biggest donors ($5,000 and above, many of which I found for them) but warned me not to wear the pin where an actual donor could see it. That was my last day as a volunteer.

Also, those picking Romney are cowardly surrender monkeys willing to live in a pile of manure.

Well, you will be living here with the rest of us, willing or not. Or are you planning on emigrating?

“Tell me, if your two major party choices were Adolf Hitler or Hubert Humphrey”

First off your analogy is terribly flawed. If one is going to liken Obama to Hitler, then Romney would be Herman Goering or Mussolini. The contrast you project between Obama and Romney is to stark. They really aren’t that different.

So, you are mistaken to think Romney is a “firewall.”

“Sola Veritas, I seriously doubt that you know any real Marines”

I interact continually with U.S. Army personnel (and Reserve and Guard) on a professional basis. I also, to a lesser extent, deal with Marines, Navy, and Air Force personnel. I have spent a great deal of time conserving with current active duty Marines because I want to understand their espirt. So, yes I do, as much as a non-Marine can, understand current Marine Corps personnel.

So, you opening statement is flawed and the rest of what you write is not worth reviewing.

“You assume that he’s lying.” I KNOW he is lying because of his record and his mouth is moving. I KNOW the same thing about Obama.

Just don’t complain about the stink if or when it happens. You don’t have the right to complain anymore.

Fair enough. I will expect the same from you if Obama wins.
