sounds to me like the would be robber was bluffing and the would be victim got lucky as hell when he called that bluff.

Given the usual response when armed scumbag meets armed citizen, it appears that the citizens have generally thought things out a little better than the scumbag. An honest, clear thinking, reasonable person who has soberly considered the responsibilities involved in taking up a firearm seems to fare much better against your garden variety street thug. Maybe that’s why our citizen armies have consistently kicked the butts of zealots, fascists and mercenaries.

Wow!
I am amazed.
The only time Beaumont makes the news is when something bad happens.
This is great news.
I have a buddy that is a detective with BPD, I will ask why they refuse to show the perp.
I have a pretty good idea....

boondocks!
{;^)We made news with the whole "
Jap Road" kerfuffle.
When combined that's an inside joke. Ask your friend.
Will you let me know what he says about releasing the picture?

And speaking of coincidences, seeing where you're from, I met some electricians from Arizona working down here yesterday.
Nice guys. They represented the State well and they were good conversationalists.

A photo of August is not being released at this preliminary phase of the investigation because it could harm the integrity of the investigation. We are asking that the media not publish or post his photo at this time.Any guesses as to why, Folks?

I hope the Cops let the Victim keep the Perp’s Shotgun and Impounded Car.
Those are my kind of Reparations, especially if the Shotgun was a Remington 870 and the guy was driving a 69 Charger.

Given how vicious criminals have been becoming of late, he probably (rightly) figured he had nothing to lose by doing so.

“I would love to see the moves he made to go from a shotgun at his head to shooting the guy.”
I was thinking the same too but the perp probably demanded his wallet and instead of taking out his wallet he took out his pistol from the back of his waistband. The shotgun was probably up high on the perp’s face thus blocking his view of the pistol hence why he got shot in the hip. A pretty cool customer if you ask me. Just guessin’

Also, long guns are no good for close in work. Simply grab the barrel with one hand and shoot with the other!
Different thing if he's 5 feet away.

Guns do prevent weirdos from prospering. I’d rather have one than not.

From the link provided by philman_36:
Truck in the next parking space
Perp jumps out, throws down on him with a shotgun
Friend is seated with one foot inside his Jeep Cherokee
Keeps talking to perp and pushing shotgun barrel sideways
Says he’s getting his wallet.
Pulls his TAURUS 709 Slim from kidney carry
Fires once
Perps falls backwards, drops shotgun, jumps up and runs
K9 finds the perp shot through the hip and hiding.
Friend goes home alive.
Here is a review of the Taurus 709 Slim:
