In campaign remarks yesterday at the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago, Illinois, President Barack Obama praised his adopted city, where he lived before becoming president of the United States. "Chicago is an example of what makes this country great," Obama said. His audience applauded.
President Obama's proof for his assertion? The donors in the room, who had given to his reelection campaign. "Witness this room," Obama said. And he elaborated: "[W]e've got everything we need to make things work here in America. We still have the best workers in the world. (Applause.) We've still got the best entrepreneurs in the world. We've got the best colleges, the best universities, the best scientists, the best researchers. We're a young nation, and we've got the greatest diversity of talent and ingenuity from every corner of the globe."
But what President Obama did not address is Chicago's homicide rate, one of the highest in the nation.
"[M]ore Chicago residents -- 228 -- have been killed so far this year in the city than the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan - 144 -- over the same period," the Huffington Post noted in June.
"The war zone-like statistics are not new. As WBEZ reports, while some 2,000 U.S. troops have been killed in Afghanistan since 2001, more than 5,000 people have been killed by gun fire in Chicago during that time, based on Department of Defense and FBI data. Chicago's murder rate is also currently quadruple that of New York and double Los Angeles' rate."
CBS blames Chicago's crime statistics on gang violence:
There are 228 dead: That's the number of murders this year in Chicago. It's nearly twice as many as the number of Americans lost on the battlefields of Afghanistan over these last six months. And the number of deaths is up 35 percent over the same period last year.
There was a time it was called "gangland" Chicago and maybe that time has returned.
Chicago's mayor, Rahm Emanuel, was formerly President Obama's chief of staff.
Not surprised that the IOC shot it down. I sense they working to keep the “politics” OUT of the olympics since that bribe scandal that nearly took it down a nunber of years back, though the London games opening ceromony had to bring in the “NHS” .

Ya, and remember, Obama personally went to Copenhagen to lobby for Chicago to get the Olympics.
I remember Oprah was on that trip, and said that Obama was the captain of their team.
Michelle Obama at the time, said that their strategy in Copenhagen would be “take no prisoners”.
But, alas, it didn’t work out as planned.................

He’s off his meds again! What makes me ill is that he has the guts to stand before us and say these things. No conscience, no soul at all. He is totally corrupt.
Mayor Rahm danced into the controversy after Alderman Proco Joe Moreno (1st ward) had publicly announced his opposition to Chick-Fil-A opening in his ward.
Mayor Rham chuckled while doing a plie: "It's easy to do business in Chicago when you know 'the rules.' Chick-Fil-A can open in our town as long as it adopts 'Chicago Values.' "
(1) weekly cash pay off to the alderman;
(2) hire six of the alderman's friends who work only random days of the month,
(3) BIG AL from the Mayor's office picks up all cash in brown paper bags at CFA's back door,
(4) Chick Fil A staff trained to shoot 10-12 customers per month,
(5) Any CFA customers actually killed must be registered to vote as Democrats,
(6) $100,00 campaign contribution to Obama,
(7) free food to Jesse Jackson, Jr, who is now "convalescing," b/c he screwed up buying Obama's Senate seat.

High if not the highest gas prices, high if not the highest murder rate, massive political corruption, high if not the highest tax rates, high cost of living, etc. Sure community organizer, can’t beat it. Those things are what makes a Rat and union infested city great.

Indeed. A city of great values if socialistic anarchy is your ideal.
And perhaps even worse than the rampant drug war violence is the fact that Chicago is a city so corrupt that no one in their right mind will ever consider it as a place to locate a business specializing in 21st century technology.
