Just like ambitious, successful blacks are derided as "Uncle Toms" by their under-achieving peers, earnest, high-achieving kids in high school are maligned as "brown-nosers" by their jealous classmates who are usually slackers and shiftless pot-smokers.

Many of the "cool kids" from my high school class flip burgers, do oil changes or work at car washes - those of them that didn't go to jail. Their high school glory days, when they were briefly atop the social pecking order are now far behind them - hope it was worth it!
