It doesn’t matter if he’s right on the facts.
It doesn’t matter if it was only one mistake.
It doesn’t matter if he’s truly sorry.
It doesn’t matter if everyone is mis-construing his comment.
The ONLY thing that matters is that his continued presence in the race jeopardizes Republicans’ ability to re-take the Senate and RR’s chances as well. There is nothing Akin can do to change that political reality. He has to get out and he will if he is capable of acting in accordance with the principles he espouses.
This dumbbell now has the chance to redeem himself somewhat by showing a little grace under pressure by bowing out. Will he go down as a hero by doing the right thing for the cause? Or will he demonstrate a level of selfishness that would make Lisa Murkowski proud.
