Rep. Steve King: I’ve never ‘heard of’ statutory rape victims becoming pregnant
Yahoo News ^ | 8-21-2012

Rep Steve King (R-Iowa) jumped into the "legitimate rape" fray Tuesday by telling a local reporter that he doesn't personally know of any victims of statutory rape or incest who became pregnant from the attacks.

The reporter asked King about a bill he put forward last year that would have barred federal Medicaid funds from going towards abortions except when the life of the mother is in danger or in the case of "forcible rape." (The current law just makes an exception for "rape," without the forcible part.) The new terminology would most likely prevent people who become pregnant from incest or statutory rape--when an adult has sex with someone under the age of consent--from accessing Medicaid-funded abortions. King told the reporter he didn't know of anyone who had become pregnant under those circumstances.

"Well I just haven't heard of that being a circumstance that's been brought to me in any personal way, and I'd be open to discussion about that subject matter," he said. (Talking Points Memo points to a 1996 Guttmacher Institute study that found that half of all pregnancies among minors were fathered by adult men.)

It's never been brought to me in any personal way either.

I agree he probably shouldn't have commented at all at this point. However, I don't think he said that it doesn't happen.

Whether his words were twisted or not...the message has to be clear and has to come from Mitt...STFU until the end of the year about this topic.

That’s because Planned Parenthood coaches minors to LIE about their sexual relationships with adults. There is then no “statutory rape” to report to the authorities and the rapist is freed by Planned Parenthood’s culture of corruption.

They’ve been caught repeatedly on tape coaching young women to lie.

Gotcha.

No problem with King’s comments.

It strikes me as regrettable if Akin is being excoriated and tossed for a single remark, but unfortunately, in the current political climate (and with the major media essentially operating as the propaganda wing of the democrat party) AND with the stakes so high, his comment makes him too much of a liability.

I suspect King was confusing statutory rape with molestation. If so, that too would be ignorant and indefensible.

Here is King's official response:

“....I have never heard of and categorically reject the so-called medical theory that launched this controversy......

Here is Yahoo's new headline:

Rep. Steve King (R-Kron) doesn't believe in "so-called" medical theory.

WHAT AN EFFING MORON!

1st off it happens all the time.

2nd, Steve, you should keep your idiotic opinion to yourself. You are clearly dumber than a box of rocks.

3rd. This is a hot button issue your buddy created who is now only marginally less asinine than you.

Freaking Creep.

Steve King needs to go. He and Akin are proof positive have homicidal bombers among the GOP congressional delegation.

Keep it going, republicans.

Obama loves every minute when the conversation isn't about jobs and the economy.

No need to dance around anything. Support the death penalty for rape; And no abortions before conviction!

You'd have kids in their teenage years before the appeals were exhausted.

We've had a couple of threads on that idea ~ it does turn all the logic upside down. Interesting to watch folks try to argue on behalf of the lives of the rapists.

Seriously now, this has little effect on Democrat voters. They're the ones who still think that if you do it standing up nobody gets pregnant.

The real effect is on REPUBLICAN voters who will simply not vote for Aikin over the issue. Hopefully few Republicans watch MSNBC and NBC anyway.

Here’s your dilemma. Sex is a Socon issue. Mitt is not doing Socon issues in this campaign.

They are talking about it because they see how effective this attack has been on Akins. The GOP Establishment is running scared and the more they react the more the attacks.

Steve King endorsed Akins in the primary. Rep. Paul Ryan, co-sponsored an abortion-related bill with Akin that would have limited federal funding for abortions to victims of forcible rape," rather than just rape. The FBI's definition of rape is known as "forcible rape," and it is used to distinguish between statutory rape and other kinds of rape.

Huckabee asked Akin whether he was talking about "forcible rape" when he used the term "legitimate rape."

Ryan is the real target. The GOP should have circle the wagons around Akin after he apologized and explained what he meant. Instead, they elected to throw him under the bus. Akin doesn't support abortion even in the case of rape and incest. Anyone who believes in that will now be hunted and attacked.

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me. "I was talking about forcible rape, and it was absolutely the wrong word," Akin said.

I’ve read more than one prolife article of raped women keeping the resulting offspring. If the Repubs want to commit suicide, the press is more than willing to assist them.

Perhaps there IS a biological mechanism which deters raped women from getting pregnant!

There was a thread refuting this but I see it's been yanked by a moderator for the cause of "B.S." Well, no, it was "P.S." as in Popular Science, a mainstream publication. I guess things disagreed with by a random moderator are now "B.S." and not even available for debate.

Since the thread is gone, here's a direct link to the article: Rape Results In More Pregnancies Than Consensual Sex, Not Fewer

Politicians want to know something about everything when they should be happy to know enough to keep their mouths shut when they don’t know anything about something. Republicans especially should know that the media is out to get them. Both brains and balls are required to survive.

Make them stop!!! Make our out-of-touch, middle-aged and older, white male GOP pols stop leading the party to another round of self-destruction!!!

They can’t help but be idiots when they talk about “women’s issues”, and they could well be losing the Senate and the Presidency in years in which they both should be won.

Yikes!!!
