Deadline passes: Akin defies calls to drop out

I didn’t listen to his interview on Sean Hannity’s radio show this afternoon but conservative tweeters were rapt. This sounds promising:

jimgeraghty @jimgeraghty

Akin now talking about two world wars, rebuilding our enemies' lands... he's rambling. Incoherent. Nowhere near questions asked.

And here’s something that, coming from most other pols, I’d chalk up to feigned ignorance of a politically inconvenient fact. In this case? Not so sure:

Philip Klein @philipaklein

Akin befuddled when Hannity tells him that PPP poll oversampled Republicans.

According to Geraghty, Hannity ended the segment by saying, “The person who’s going to be happiest with this interview is Claire McCaskill.” You think? I don’t know: Akin’s inner circle seems downright psyched about this glorious opportunity to overcome adversity.

"On the seemingly dire politics of staying in the race, Akin advisers assert, “The truth might work,” referring to what they consider his sincere apology."

"Projecting unusual confidence in the face of so much opposition, advisers even predicted that Akin will be sworn into office in January “stronger having endured and overcome.”

" And they claim he will consider this experience a “blessing,” because Akin would have a new national audience for his grassroots causes and be better able to speak to people who believe the political process has “left them by the side of the road.”

If overcoming this gaffe will leave him a little bit stronger, imagine how much stronger he’ll be after overcoming the inevitable four or five major gaffes still to come. One more thing from the Hannity bit:

Philip Klein @philipaklein

Akin on Romney: "Why couldn't he run his race and I run mine." 21 Aug 12

Not a bad development for Romney to have a guy as radioactive as this suddenly grumbling publicly about him, but I can’t remember the last time the GOP’s presidential nominee and its Senate nominee in a key swing state were publicly on the outs.

Do you know anything about this guy ?
He is a nut and a serious stooge.
He made a complete fool out of himself on Hannity today.
He is a selfish somewhat delusional crackpot who rambles on about some type of calling etc..
I can see why Claire spend millions helping him win the primary and HE LET HER .

“I give this guy Aikin kudos for hanging tough. I think he’ll win BECAUSE voters will see he wasn’t cowed by a bunch of Democrat newsrooms and quisling Republicans.

As I have said before every homicide bomber has hung tough on principles... same results lots of collateral damage little or no gain....

Yep -- the national GOP never lifted a finger for him and now they demand that he resign. Who are they to demand anything???

A large group of conservative Missouri legislators are behind him 100% and told the weak kneed squishy group of Senators going soft to either grow some spine or sit down and shut up.

Someone needs to offer him a million bucks and a lobbyist position. Bet that would change his mind.

So now “women’s issues “ have been reduced to sex and rape. Women should be pissed off at both parties. Women want jobs too.

He’s not dragging anybody down but himself. Mitt Romney and the GOP are the wizards who chose to throw themselves on that grenade.

Fortunately my candidates have been smart enough to stay away from the issue.

Palin’s queen of choice didn’t win the primary. Time to zip the lip. The right to life, especially as it pertains to the unborn, is not a thing to be compromised, liberal pig squealing and opinionating be damned. I am delighted to see Akin double down on his candidacy in the face of all the spineless nail biting.

It's nothing to do with his pro-life beliefs: I can respect him for that. I can't respect a member of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology being pig-sh1t ignorant on basic reproductive Biology. I also can't respect a worthless, puffed-up, bouffant, combed-over, spray-tanned, geriatric, throwback piece of sh1t derailing a fantastic week for Republicans, breathing new life into the "war-on-women" lie, and making it likely that we'll face at least two more years of Harry Reid as Senate majority leader.

F*ck Akin, f*ck Steve King, and f*ck any other useful idiot who hasn't the sense to STFU.

One way or another, this November will be an existential turning point for the Republic. "Traitor" isn't a word to be tossed around lightly, but in this case it fits. Akin is a traitor to all forms of conservatism and a traitor to his country.

Ryan and Romney are national candidates not local ones so naturally they got dragged in.

And Just wait , its only day two and with the 24/7 media its only just begun.

this attack theme is going nation wide and everyone will get dragged in unless this fool goes away.
This guy went on some weird rambling rant on Hannity’s show .

Claire McCaskill is so unpopular, it would be a shame to to do anything that might help the Democrat. In my opinion, if Aiken really is a "nutcase", the Republican Party in Missouri should replace him on the ballot. As Rush said today, this is more important than one man. The survival of America as we know it depends upon the Republicans taking the WH and the Senate, as well as keeping the House. That "witch" should not be rewarded for stealing the election in 2006 and so strongly backing Obama in 2008 that she was very instrumental in getting him elected.

Obama isn’t Winning anything. The rcp is total garbage...a collection of terrible polls. Watch Rasmussen and gallop, and watch the states. Most importantly, watch the campaigns. Obama is campaigning like he’s in bad shape. He spent most of his time last week in Iowa, which would be solid Obama if he was ahead. He’s behind or even in most swing states, and sitting around 45 in most of them. He’s in poor shape,in Michigan wisconisn and Iowa, which are traditionally democrat states. There is still a ways to go, but the presidential election is leaning our way.

The Missouri senate race is a different story. This may fade, but unless money is recommitted, we gave up a sure win due to aiken’s selfishness.

Jyotishi: In medical school in the 70’s the teaching was the chance of a pregnancy from a rape was much less than the chance of pregnancy from consensual rape. The speculation was based on studies which suggested that the psychologic trauma caused hormone changes that were hostile to fertilized ovum implantation with resultant expulsion from the uterus. Sounded plausible — can’t quote the exact research at this time but I’d bet a research of the medical literature will turn this up....
Of course it never said it COULD NOT result in pregnancy, just that the odds were much lower in those cases.
His unfortunate use of the word “legitimate” colors the picture quite a bit as it’s not politically correct to be seen as accusatory to women who report rape, though a certain percentage are false claims....that is unless you are referring to one Juanita Broderick !!
Fight on Mr. Akin.... ome misstatement can not compare to the multitude of dangerous socialist votes that have been cast by Sen. McCaskill.
