Mayor: ‘Absolutely Prepared To Call Off’ GOP Convention If Isaac Threatens Tampa

TAMPA (CBS Tampa/AP) — Tampa’s mayor warns that the Republican National Convention could be canceled if Tropical Storm Isaac heads for the city.

Mayor Bob Buckhorn told CNN that he is more concerned about the safety of his people than holding the convention.

“Absolutely we’re prepared to call it off,” Buckhorn explained to CNN. “I mean, human safety and human life trumps politics. I think the RNC recognizes that.”

Buckhorn also added that the city has contingency plans ready in case of an emergency.

“I don’t think it’s going to be a factor in this particular convention,” Buckhorn told CNN. “But we are prepared in the event that it is.”

Isaac could threaten Florida as early as next week.

Models have been moving west the last few updates. Don’t listen to the news weather babes and guessers, look at the models and see for yourself what the T R E N D is. You will beat the weather experts because they listen to others and try to get a consensus. Frequently these guys just AVERAGE all the models and draw a line up the middle when NO model is predicting that movement.

History shows these guesses 4 days in advance mean very little. I would bet it may rain in Tampa on Monday as the storm goes by in the Gulf of Mexico headed towards Louisiana. They need the rain north of there. Nothing but wishful thinking for those who need it.

They have said it on Fox News too. I think they should cancel today and have it in Ohio. Why wait and risk a complete cancellation when they have time to change it to a state we need too.
