Relying on Todd Akin's sense of decency has not worked. Within hours of his idiotic comments about "legitimate rape," Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS pulled out millions of dollars in funding for the Missouri Senate race. Akin didn't get the hint.
Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, withdrew all funding from the Missouri race. Akin still refused to quit.
Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, a major Christian and tea party favorite, immediately called for Akin to withdraw from the race -- nothing.
Even Sean Hannity, the most true-blue Republican and defender of all conservatives, pleaded with Akin to withdraw. Still nothing.
This guy Akin is more selfish than Eliot Spitzer. After being caught in a prostitution scandal, Spitzer spent two days looking for anyone who would come to his aid. When no one did, he resigned.

True, what Spitzer did was worse, but not in the Democratic tradition. Moreover, Spitzer was the sitting governor! Akin won a highly contested Republican primary only a few weeks ago and thinks he's got a God-given right to be the Senate candidate from Missouri.

Naps, i know all that. Had he not decided to give “expert opinion,” he`d be fine. Problem is, the damage and his candidacy are done, and quite likely so are the chances of taking control of the Senate and repealing Obamacare.
But all that takes backseat to Akin`s prideful ego.
You’re point is well taken. On the issues, Akin is a solid conservative. I would add that, on the Huckabee show, he apologized for using the wrong words (”legitimate rape”) to say the wrong thing {women are protected from becoming pregnant when their is forcible rape). But, here’s another consideration.
We want to make the point that Obama and other Democrats say things like “you didn’t build that” that reveal their true intentions. So, are we talking about something that was merely a gaffe, or something that is more like a Freudian slip? And, what counts here is how this comes across to the voters we need to win in order to win the election, in Missouri and across the country.
Regarding Ann Coulter, she should not have compared Akin to Elliott Spitzer. That’s unfair and inflammatory. Not only did Akin’s slip up not compare to Spitzer’s despicable behavior, but Akin was not being selfish in not immediately withdrawing. There are two deadlines for withdrawing. Akin can still withdraw by the second deadline, if that is what he chooses, and it would simply cost the Republicans some money to have the ballots reprinted.
This might all rebound o.k. for the Republicans. First, Republicans have shown that we will not tolerate offensive words from our candidates. Second, Akin can explain that being pro-life is not being anti-woman, we can and should be both. In fact, his position is not the absolute 100 percent pro-life position, since he is for allowing taxpayer funding of abortion in cases of “legitimate rape,” meaning forcible rape and possibly also incest. So, his position aligns with a large majority of the population.

Actually there are republicans who want him stay in. Some are legitimate supporters of his in Missouri. The others are the from outside the state. they are from the Nobody-But-My-Candidate-For-President crowd. These people are from the same crowd that has vowed to let Obama win to teach the GOPe a lesson.
They may not realize it yet but they just took the heat off Romney
If Akin loses the the Senate seat and/or if Romney loses Missouri and the general election, the heat would be off Romney and the RINOs. We conservatives will not be able to blame the GOPe or Romney for the defeat.
Akin will be to blame. It wont make us look too good either as conservatives.

Yieks. People are stupid. A conservative who made a very dumb statement is now worse than a liberal democrat? I don’t understand people at all. Big woopie he said you get raped you chances of getting pregnant goes down...right or wrong. Who cares. People are so stupid.
What part is it exactly you just don't get? His voting record and prior standing as a solid conservative doesn't matter now. The statement he made makes him look like a out of touch, doddering, fool that either A) really believes this stupid statement or B) has no idea where babies come from or C) does not understand what a heinous crime rape is.
AND THAT IS THE BRUSH THE MEDIA AND DEMOCRATS WILL PAINT EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN ON THE TICKET WITH FOR THE NEXT THREE MONTHS!
Our chances to dispose of Obama and retake the Senate are vanishing with every second this self-serving idiot stays in the race, and this is an election we cannot afford to lose.

That's a nuclear bomb, alright, particularly if Bond doesn't want to play. When he announced his retirement from the Senate, Bond explained, "In 1972, I became Missouri's youngest governor. Good friends, I have no aspiration of becoming Missouri's oldest senator." He completed four terms in the Senate. So, I think somebody should ask Bond if he wants to get involved in this kind of thing at this time of his life.
Write-in candidacies and last minute substitutions are no sure thing. It might be more productive to get behind the guy who won the nomination and who is willing to run. But, I have no objection to trying a change if folks down there think it best.
I don't live in Missouri and so it's really none of my business what the GOP does in that state. If I did live in Missouri, I would vote for Akin before I would vote for McCaskill.

Juxtapose that with the response to the selection of Ryan as VP: The Dems were ecstatic, while the GOP establishment, was lukewarm.
I wonder how the Dems are feeling about Ryan now? I'm guessing not nearly as excited.
In the end it boils down to the the ability of candidate to excite and engage the voters...
Ann is not fond of real conservatives, She supported Chris Christie for President.
Ann used the wrong example. Murkowski was a sore loser. She lost the primary and then ran as a write-in candidate. She is not a conservative and during the 2011 session she had an ACU rating of 50. Joe Miller would have won without her in the race and Miller would have been much more conservative.
And what makes it worse is that the GOP leadership in the Senate welcomed her back with open arms after she subverted the GOP primary person. Murkowski is the selfish one who placed self above party.
It is similar to what happened in Indiana. Lugar was a sure lock for reelection. Mourdock had the temerity to challenge the Inside the Beltway RINO who didn't even have a legitimate residence in Indiana. Now Lugar refuses to campaign for him. And need I say more than just Arlen Spector.
Winning the seat with RINOs does nothing to stop and reverse the welfare state. The GOP Establishment does not like conservatives--except when they need their votes at election time.
If you think that tossing Akin to the Dem beast will be enough to satiate him, then you are sadly mistaken. It just whets its appetite. And what kind of message does this send to other Rep candidates who must walk on eggshells for fear of saying something politically incorrect. Do we now have the "one mistake and your out" rule with the MSM deciding what consititutes a mistake? Is the GOP so afraid of the "War on Women" appellation that they will engage in self-censorship, the worst censorship of all?
Why does the GOP (The Stupid Party) treat good and decent men like Todd Akin so unfairly? Couldn't they have handled it the way the Dems do for far more serious offenses? Apologize, clarify, and move on? Instead, they piled on Akin at the very outset of the MSM hysteria. Even George "Macacca" Allen demanded Akin withdraw for saying something stupid.
