Former Disney worker expected to sue over head scarf dispute

A former Disney employee is expected to announce Monday a federal lawsuit against the entertainment giant, saying she was harassed and unfairly removed from her hostess job after refusing to remove her head scarf while at work.

Imane Boudlal, who is Muslim, said she had worked at Storyteller's Cafe in Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa in Anaheim for two years when she began wearing her hijab to work in August 2010. Boudlal said she was told wearing her scarf was a violation of company policy, and she would either have to remove it, cover it with a hat or take a job working out of public sight.

Boudlal, now 28, refused. She has not worked at Disney since Aug. 21, 2010, said Mark Rosenbaum, an attorney from the ACLU of Southern California who is representing Boudlal.

In America the hijab, niqab, burka, chador, garbage bag, etc is worn as an in-your-face political statement & nothing less:

“We are not of your culture! We do not share your values! We do not respect your ways and we DEMAND that you respect ours! Our religion today is your religion tomorrow! Inshallah!!!”

BTW, I was deployed to Uzbekistan which was part of the USSR and is (mostly) secular. Women wear mostly Western garb. I asked one good-looking Uzbek chick if there were any burkas in Uzbekistan. Her dark eyes flashed and she replied, “Of course not!”, then pointed toward Afghanistan. “That’s for those people to the south!”

Wow, I thought. A Muslimah who gets it about burkas.

“She filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 2010 and received a “notice of right-to-sue” from the agency Aug. 8, opening the door for litigation. She is expected to reveal her legal plans Monday morning with her attorneys at the ACLU’s Los Angeles office.”

Why did the EEO even permit the lawsuit?
Disney has a dress code for employees who present Disney to the public. For 60 years they have been consistent in that dress code. Disney is right.
If they randomly applied the rules, then they would lose. If consistent, as they are, they will win.
Because you're a Muslim doesn't give you more rights than the next person just the same.

If I understand this correctly she waited 2 years after being hired to start wearing it.........WHY?

Likely read a news story where others sued for fun and profit and figured she’d cash in.

Remember Sara Duncan the ballerina whose headscarf wrapped around the axle of a convertible she was in and snapped her neck?

Look all Mohammedans, no one forced you to work at Disney. There are other jobs. Be a nanny for a Mohammedan family, work at a mosque. Stay home. But if you want to work at Disney, DISNEY IS YOUR BOSS HONEY

I lived for years in So Calif.

This is NOT the first lawsuit against Disney for personal appearances.

Disney has won all the prior suits, IIRC, because they consider their employees a part of the overall ENTERTAINMENT that Disney is providing at their theme parks and they want each employee in each job to represent what that job entails.

If you are working in FrontierLand, you will be expected to look the part, etc. Same for Cinderella’s castle.

This woman worked there for a number of months.

Disney is VERY CLEAR about pre-employment information & what is expected in your daily appearance.

This woman will lose, IMO, and Disney will not make a settlement.
That would open the door to hundreds of other Muslims trying the same trick for free money.

I noticed the Disney statement on the matter — which didn’t get into the specifics of this case — that the Disney spokesperson referred to their employees as “entertainers.” I’m guessing that is significant from a legal standpoint and that it echos the wording of the Disney (employee) Handbook.

Thanks for the input!

“Because you’re a Muslim doesn’t give you more rights than the next person just the same.”

You are WRONG, O infidel!! Muslims HAVE more rights than you filthy Kaffirs because the Noble Koran so states,

“O ye who believe! Know ye not that ye are the best of all peoples upon the Earth?”

Surrender to Islam you unbelievers or WE KILL YOU!!!
