Dee Snider lashes out at politician for using Twisted Sister song

Rocker DEE SNIDER has lashed out at U.S. vice presidential hopeful PAUL RYAN for allegedly using his popular tune WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT during a campaign stop in Pennsylvania. Ryan, who is currently touring America to support Mitt Romney's bid for the White House, reportedly tried to boost morale during a political rally on Tuesday (21Aug12) by blaring the classic Twisted Sister hit to pump up the crowd. However, Snider has taken issue with the politician's use of the song and has lodged a formal complaint with Ryan's camp. A statement from the 57 year old reads, "I emphatically denounce Paul Ryan's use of my band Twisted Sister's song 'We're Not Gonna Take It' in any capacity. There is almost nothing he stands for that I agree with except the use of the (home exercise regime) P90X." This is not the first time a Republican Party candidate has been reprimanded for their choice of music - earlier this month (Aug12) rockers Silversun Pickups fired off a cease-and-desist letter ordering Romey to stop playing their track Panic Switch.

Why don’t these candidates - and also Rush and Hannity - use music from artists who support them or at least support free speech?????

Whenever they do, their rallies end up sounding like a country music concert. And the gutless GOP establishment is obviously too scared to be associated with real conservatives like Ted Nugent and Hank Williams, Jr. Maybe they should stick to classical music?

Why do rock and rollers complain over use of their music by Republicans but never complain about Democrats using their music?

They don't lose cool points when Democrats use their music.

Saw the Pretenders a few years ago with ZZ Top and the Stray Cats. I went out to smoke during the Pretenders and all her BS preaching about crap I could care less about.

They sounded terrible, too. Had she put as much time into sound check as to preaching...at least ZZ was great(as always)

Next expect hissy fits from men in makeup about their songs being played over the satellite radio in Chick-Fil-A and In-&-Out Burger.

The Who’s lyrics would be much better anyway...We won’t get fooled again.

The Who were angry about Michael Moore including their song in his movie Fahrenheit 9-11.

but a politician can still be sued under the federal trademark law for false advertising if the use of the song implies that the musician has endorsed the candidate.

I would think (if I were on a jury) that such "implication" only comes if you are using the song IN a tv or radio ad. Everything else these days is just background noise.

Won't get fooled again? Would that be prescient?

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

Lyrics to Won't Get Fooled Again by the Who

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgment of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

Yeah!

Meet the new boss

Same as the old boss

Although it may well be apropos, somehow I do not think that is the impression the GOP wants people to have of their campaign.

Saw them live, twice. Unfortunately without Keith was OK but he wasn’t driving the bad so you ended up with lame songs like, Athena,

The second time I saw them they had a different drummer and they rocked.

Too bad about John thunderfingers Entwistle.

Rush isn’t a fair comparison. He secured the artist’s permission to use it, and as he’s said many times, he pays for it.
