My favorite Jefferson quote — it is inscribed around the cupola in the Jefferson Memorial.

And that is the most beautiful of our monuments, for it reminds us of the great gift to the world Jefferson authored:

The Declaration of Independence,

which, as Lincoln stated, "encapsulated" abstract ideas into a single document which, along with the U. S. Constitution, changed the world.

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them."

Try as they may, so-called "progressives" cannot top that assertion by any "redistribution" or "choice" ideas they may propose.

Our lives and rights are antecedent to any prerogatives they may assert as they rely on Marxian and "other" ideas.

The ideas of Jefferson are the ideas which, according to him, reflected "the American mind" in 1776, and they are the ideas essential to individual liberty and opportunity.
