I slammed what Akin said early and loud on these forums.

But he did show a source, it wasn’t something he dreamed up on his own.

Many Freepers here are made up of far weaker intellectual and ethical material. Long after Akin’s source was revealed, and even linked to multiple times they continued to assert that this was some stupid thing Akin made up out of thin air.

I had no per-conceived notion that Akin made this up out of thin air. He obviously learned it from somewhere but that didn’t matter because it was still incredibly stupid to even consider in the first place. What it showed was an incredible lack of judgement. Somehow it fit his world view and uses it as a crutch of justification. Any objective research would have exposed how wrong it was. The worst part was he had no idea why people were laughing at him. Is this what passes for a representative of conservatism?

I too was/am one of those who was meciless in my comments but it was also set to bring up a much bigger point. OPEN PRIMARIES.

Those are at the root of this ever being an issue in the first place. When is the Stupid Party in those states going to realize how wrong headed it is?

It wasn’t made up out of thin air in terms of “somebody else apparently BELIEVES this”, but it was terminally STUPID and a terminally STUPID thing to say in an interview.

Akin himself now says it was FALSE. That what the source says is WRONG. And he should not have said it.

In an interview he’s asked what is your view of abortion in cases of rape. And he blurts out the doozy, well, I understand that a woman’s body has ways of shutting down the process (of conception) if it’s a legitimate rape.

That is the purely dumbest thing a politician has said, that I know of, since Clayton Williams was running against Ann Richards in TX for governor, had the race won, then said as a metaphor for something else, that a thing was kind of like rape, if you can’t do anything about it, might as well lay back and enjoy it.

Hello, Ann Richards, Governor of Texas.

Don’t get me started. Oh, too late, you already did.

Try to see this...it isn’t so hard unless you resist the obvious truth...it isn’t all about the stupid statement. It’s as much about the fact that someone who would say that in the heat of an election campaign can’t be trusted to become the governor or senator of your state, because who knows what else lies in that feeble brain just waiting to pop out.

Already this guy has run around making himself a hero against the “establishment”.

Who cares? Is Sarah Palin the “establishment”? Are shocked and angry voters the “establishment”?

He’s made himself into God’s chosen, by his subsequent words.

If I were there in MO, of course I would vote for the turkey against Claire. But I’m not the same as all these moderate fence sitters.

I understood what he meant, although he didn’t explain the emotional response to rape well, at all. But, statistically, what percentage of women are raped, and statistically, what percentage of them are ovulating, and the numbers become dramatically miniscule. And then you add the emotional response to the trauma, and the numbers get smaller.

It doesn’t matter is what he said is true or not...the MSM is going to use it as a club and that’s all there is to it.

They will beat him with it until election day...and if he wins (unlikely) he will be known as the Senator from Legitimate Rape...or some such.

The media is very powerful, still...and they will not let this go. Too many voters are stupid enough to buy their take on this.

Wish it weren’t so.
