President Barack Obama recently signed an executive order hiring race-sensitive bureaucrats to hold meetings and mandate racial discipline quotas.
The order charges his new racial justice team, in part, with "promoting a positive school climate that does not rely on methods that result in disparate use of disciplinary tools." In plain English, that means that if different races have different incidences of disciplinary action, those of a favored race who act worse will be punished less, or those of a disfavored race who act better will be punished more, or both. It's true that a higher percentage of black students than white students receive school discipline such as suspensions or expulsion. A recent, representative study of nearly half the country's school districts found that 17.3 percent of black students were suspended in 2009-10, whereas 4.7 percent of whites and 7.3 percent of Latinos were. Only 2.1 percent of Asians were suspended that year. The black graduation rate is 64 percent. For whites, it's 82 percent, and for Asians, it's 92 percent.

As usual, California (the `Golden State’) is on the cutting edge of indoctrination passing as education.
Teachers there aren’t teaching anything worthwhile, and they stultify kids in both English and Spanish.

In thinking about your post, I realize that compulsory government schooling steals a person's life and prevents them from using that life in a way that is most satisfying to them.
For example:
**traveling experiences ( in your case),
**developing a talent ( as one of my homeschoolers did),
** accelerating their education ( as two of my children did) or
**learning a trade,
**just plain working for money.
Government schools **steal** life. There is a word for that: Slavery!
Children are **used** ( enslaved) for the purpose of providing jobs for middle class government toadies of very limited talent.

And...All ( Red, yellow, black, and white) could be doing so much better if set free from the government school plantations.
It's the entire system, not just the teachers.
Districts are handing out "pacing guides" that tell you what textbook page you WILL be on on what date. It doesn't matter whether or not your class is ready for that page, or if the pace is too slow for them - they WILL be on that page, or that teacher WILL be written up and eventually fired (yes, it happens).
They WILL use ONLY state approved materials, selected by the district. Teachers will NOT use any other materials. That includes special education and gifted.
I got chewed out once for letting my students read their library books in class. Who knows what would have happened had she caught the student with the short term memory issue reading comic books. Comic books worked for him.

I could not agree more with you. I work as a maintenance electrician at a local school and have one on one time with many of the students.
Without revealing too much, The school is a combination of academic and trades. Those on the academic side would lean 80% progressive. On the trade side more than 90% consevative. These students are pidgeon holed into their world veiws. I have rocked the boat on many occasions with the administration with their idea of education. The BLATANT direction of the academic teachers is astounding. The trade teachers are all capitalists and teach the technical end as well as how to manage a business.
I perfected “I’m sick” in kindergarten. My mother finally quit sending me. I vividly remember the work sheet with “Color the 5 Bears Brown.” I wanted slam my head on the table repeatedly and make it be over. A psychologist friend wanted to drug my son for ADHD. I absolutely refused. Poor kid was brilliant and bored to death. If it wasn’t for my ex-husband, my son would have been home schooled.

Yeah, I’m shouting. I am exasperated.
It only took 3 generations of socialist-enttilement government school to give the nation Franklin D. Roosevelt and ever tightening socialism.
Three generations of utterly GODLESS socialist-entitlement schooling now has given us soaring out of wedlock birthrates for both blacks and whites, and thousands upon thousands of fatherless and feral children.
It will get worse before it gets better, even if we could get every child in the nation into a solidly conservative private school tomorrow.
