Republican convention postponed until Tuesday

Republican National Convention President and CEO Bill Harris made the following statement: “Our chief priority is the safety of the residents of Florida, of those visiting the Convention, and all those in Gulf Coast states who may be impacted by Tropical Storm Isaac. We have been working closely with the campaign, the party, and state and local officials for months to ensure a successful, enjoyable convention. Federal, state and local officials assure us that they are prepared to respond, if needed, and the scheduling changes we are announcing today will help ensure the continued safety of all participants – our foremost concern. We are also committed to keeping the delegates and guests of the convention well informed about the situation, and we will continue providing updates in the hours and days ahead.”

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus made the following statement: “Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th. After consulting with Governor Scott, NOAA and local emergency management officials, we are optimistic that we will begin an exciting, robust convention that will nominate the Romney-Ryan ticket.

Very good move. Showing the National Hurricane Center that they aren’t going to shut down may result in coverage instead of hyperbole and real landfall and intensity predictions (like west of Mobile Bay at a Cat 1).

I was just talking about the McGovern convention some years back. The keynote was in the wee hours, and I think the coronation was then too, and the VP nominee was shortly after discovered to have had ELECTRO SHOCK TREATMENT!

Nixon was no longer planning to run as a LIBERAL ~ Tricky Dick had arrived!

It's going to be hard to beat that one but the GOP-e has so far demonstrated they have no sense. ANYONE, and I mean Anyone could have planned a convention somewhere there wasn't a good probability of a hurricane stopping by!

Both parties have had conventions in Miami.

In 1972 Miami hosted both the Dem and Rep conventions.

And, since the MSM nets were shortchanging MONDAY, now they will have to cover it gavel to gavel. And everyone will be covered.

DId you check out the national hurricane map I referenced? It’s pretty easy to use ~ best bet on missing a hurricane is North and West ~ MIami is just nutso in August.

We will have to raise hell if they cover more of the Dem convention. Will be interesting...

The latest models show a further west trend, so it’s likely it won’t harm Tampa much besides rain and strong gusts. HOWEVER, I am concerned this could make landfall as a major hurricane, a plus for Obama unless he screws up relief efforts.
