Brawley, California - The California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) advises that, for the next 24 hours, continued seismic activity may occur in the areas affected by the swarm of earthquakes that shook the City of Brawley in Imperial County, measuring as high as 5.5 magnitude at 12:31 p.m. yesterday.
Scientist from California Geological Survey, US Geological Survey, Cal Tech and the Southern California Earthquake Center believe the activity could involve an earthquake as large as, or larger than, todays earthquake and could cause damage to older structures.
Additionally, residents of Imperial, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego Counties may feel additional earthquakes. Seismic swarms of this nature can continue, although diminish in magnitude and frequency, over the next several weeks.
Cal EMA has been, and will continue to be, in close coordination with local authorities to provide assistance and provide timely information regarding the potential ongoing impacts of this event said Secretary Mark Ghilarducci. Todays event serves as a reminder to all Californians that an earthquake can strike at any time. Take time now to prepare your family with emergency supplies and a practiced family emergency plan.

The Pacific rim aka “ring of fire” is humming like a tuning fork.
I hate reminders like this. It’s like having to watch one of those Highway Patrol movies of car crashes every time you get behind the wheel.
Geez, I left Kansas tornados for California earthquakes.....
Well, your house more than likely will still be in the same.................. county.
:)
Clearly due to fracking in the Bakken Formation!
If you’re lucky, you might even get a volcano out of the one near the Salton Sea.

No, it's just frackin' plate tectonics.
good update on damage at earthquake-report.
they have posted a pic of “liquifaction” in Brawley.
12 posts and not a single "Bush's fault!" ...
Did Obama write that article?
LOL...it REALLY does say that. I had to check to see if you were funnin’ us.
First thing I thought. How Barry-lovers think alike. lol
After living for 30 years in Northern California and experiencing the Loma Prieta 7.2 in 1989, several 7.0 and 6.9’s, if Brawley is experiencing liquafication and other serious damage with less that 5.5’s, then I would get out of there as fast as possible.
In 1989, the Ca Earthquake whatever’s said the San Andrea’s Big One was due within 30 years, they even had public service announcements at the movies. If LP goes, so will the Hayward.
Folks, you haven’t felt anything yet!
the pics i’ve seen of liquifaction were from the large quakes, such as the Japanese quake. this pic looked like a sinkhole (after a lot of rain) to me, but what do I know? i personally, have never been through a quake.
