GOP Rules Committee Rapidly Moving to Shut Out Grassroots at 2:00 p.m. Today (It's not over)
RedState ^ | Tuesday August 28, 2012 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 08/28/2012 7:31:55 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. I’ve been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.

Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsberg’s effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominee’s campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.

That issue appears resolved, but several people I’ve spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.

Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 o’clock.

The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, “With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. They’ll be able to get Ben Ginsberg’s proposal next year.”

In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they don’t have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. They’ll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.

The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

Typical GOP-E...

MT @WhitneyNeal And there goes the rhetoric blaming #grassroots for "infighting." Last I checked, it was GOP who instituted rule changes

Eva, give it a break.
Mr. RomneyCARE does not want to win.
He only wants $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and people to blame.

Just like the rest of Team Romney, composed
of ObamaCARE and Soros supporters.

From Michelle Malkin:

Update 2:50pm Eastern

…The Rules Committee just voted 78-14 to accept the Romney-approved deal on Rules 15(16) and 12. There is now an effort to gather enough signatures to force a floor vote on the minority report. 25 percent of committee members are needed.

Apparently, the Virginia delegation was stuck on a bus and didn’t make it in time for the vote.

Eva, actually the post is correct.

Mr. ROMNEYCARE LOVES ROMNEYCARE, and himself,
and TARP, and taxes (”fees” he calls them),
and the rest of his perverted agenda.

This is exactly what I said, a battle with the Libertarians. The Paulers claim to have won the Colorado state convention and promised a battle at the convention with the Romney delegates.

This is not about excluding conservatives as much as it is about keeping the Paulers in check. This was planned by the Libertarians. We have been seeing this kind of action in state conventions for the past 3 or four years. This year they took it to the floor of the national convention. The idea is to start a battle between the RINOS and the conservatives and create a new Republican party, the way the socialists took over the Democrat Party.

The Libertarians don’t care if Romney loses because they think that it means that they win in four years, they take over the GOP.

True believers in social justice are exactly what we do not need. It doesn’t matter why they do what they do. The results will still be the same. Social justice is an impossibility because it punishes good people and rewards those who feel entitled. Destruction is it’s final outcome, no matter how compassionate their feelings are.

You know that old saying. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

You are ignoring my post that the difference lies in the motivation. Romney is much like Bush. He has bought into the whole “social justice” thing, hook, line and sinker and is on a guilt trip in his head.

Obama doesn’t have any such noble motivation. He doesn’t think that social justice applies to him because he’s half Black. Obama’s goal is unionization and centralization of power.

That is a very important different difference and makes me an Anyone But Obama voter. This time around, we aren’t going to get another chance to get it right if Obama wins, it’s all over for this country.

Motivation has NOTHING to do with.

Romney has already IMPOSED gay marriage
and RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE as a governor.
What will the mad RINO do as POTUS?
hint: IMPOSE Sharia and more TARP.

No, this about the Libertarians. This rules change was forced to the floor by a couple of the state delegations. We actually had a law suit about the Pauler delegates from WA State. There was another from Colorado, I believe, whose delegation promised to take it to the floor of the convention.

People on the East Coast don’t know about the battle that we have been waging against the Libertarians out in the western states. Rush doesn’t seem to have any idea. There was actually an article last week in our local paper about the fight that the Paulers planned for the convention floor.

Rita, are you a Libertarian by any chance?

This is not about a few Libertarians. This was a planned, concerted effort. There was even an article about it in our local paper when the Pauler law suit over the delegates was thrown out.

It takes six states to get a roll call vote to accept a Minority Report before the convention, to overturn a rule or ammend a rule??

Yup. I hate to tell them I told them so, but I told them so. This is going to be a long hard fight. It doesn’t automatically end with Obama. It’s not even the beginning of the end. When the power grabbing Rove/Romney & Co take over, we’ve only begun the fight!! Like all statists and wannabe totalitarians, they have plans for us.

Well, they have their plans and we have ours. Tea party sweeps in 2012 and then we hit them harder in 2014 and 2016!! The grassroots must wrest control away from the central planning big government statists!! Long live Liberty!!

We are the resistance!!

We’re no longer having an election in November, just a Democrat primary.

Sorry. This is about the fascist Romney who
demands that all BOW down low to his whims.

Wrong. America needs conservatives to remove
what Romney and Obama have imposed.

It’s mind blowing to me that the elite wait for a televised convention to pull this. If they had pulled these types of stunts in the primary Romney would not have won and they know it. Now they are showing their true colors. They feel they can slide into the presidency and shut the rest of us down. Seems they forget that they do not quite have it in the bag but they are telling us that if they do ultimately win that we will be marginalized in an attempt to silence those of us they so passionately despise.
