P.I. denies setting up Costa Mesa councilman by making DUI call

A private investigator who called police and reported that he suspected Costa Mesa Councilman Jim Righeimer of drunk driving denied allegations that he was hired to investigate the politician.

Chris Lanzillo, 42, said in a statement that he was on another assignment the night he spotted Righeimer getting into his SUV outside Skosh Monahan's, a local steakhouse and pub owned by one of Righeimer's council colleagues.

"If I was setting him up merely by calling 911, what was the purpose?" Lanzillo wrote Monday night. "Ultimately, an officer would have to make the call on if he violated any laws."

Righeimer, however, contended in a news conference Tuesday that he believes he was targeted by Lanzillo, a Menifee private investigator with ties to an Upland law firm that represents public-employee unions, because of his conservative politics.

A union toady, 80 miles from home, just happens to notice a man leave a restaurant and just happens follow him and just happens to think he's drunk and just happens call 911 and just happens to follow him all the way home and by gosh, it just happens to be his union's political opponent.

Yeah.

That's plausible.

This is why cops are donut-munching dog-shooting idiots.

Fire all of them.

He probably would be in a better situation now if he hadn’t been driving drunk, regardless of whether it was a setup...

“He probably would be in a better situation now if he hadn’t been driving drunk, regardless of whether it was a setup...”

He wasn’t driving drunk, he wasn’t arrested.

He is a conservative, and the government employee unions have banded together, retain law firms who send out PIs to trail politicos in hopes of finding something.

Righeimer doesn’t even drink when dining, because he already knows about their tactics.

Righeimer is a long time good conservative in The OC.

Costa Mesa is a city which the conservatives have taken majority control, to question illegal immigrants, to cut back employee pension costs, etc.

“He wasn’t driving drunk, he wasn’t arrested.”

Damn, that’s the second article that I’ve read that left me thinking that he was drunk. Pretty crappy journalism. Good to see that he’ll be fine, and well withing the Democrat playbook to do stunts like this.
