Oh heavens, trust me......the whole town is eaten up with it (despite its charm....).
I think it goes along with the college town mind set. Chapel Hill is indeed very liberal as is nearby Durham. It is interesting, though that the students on both campuses are more balanced.
I live near Boulder, which is ridiculously liberal but had 2 kids go to UNC and Duke.
The people that live near colleges are often employed by or retired from the school. It’s no secret that academia is full of lefties.
