CNNs Bernard Shaw: “Governor, if Kitty Dukakis were raped and murdered, would you favor an irrevocable death penalty for the killer?”

Dukakis immediately replied, “No, I don’t, and I think you know that I’ve opposed the death penalty during all of my life.” stoically, showing zero emotion.

Remember also that Dukakis had a 17 point lead against George H.W. Bush In the registered voter/likely voter polls before losing in one of America’s worst landslide defeats, for all of you FReepers who like to scare the crap out of yourself on a daily basis with all these polls where you’re about to drink hemlock because you think Romney/Ryan ought to be polling at 89% right now. Then election day came and it was absurdly clear that Dukakis never had a chance to win the White House.

Keep calm and carry on.

Well, Dukakis was beaten fairly badly in the electoral vote, but GHWB won by a popular vote margin only 0.45% more than Obama in 2008.

So calling it one of the worst landslides ever would be a bit of a stretch. But it certainly was one of the biggest poll collapses ever.
