Rudyard Kipling was writing 100 years ago, but most of his work sounds like it was written yesterday. (My favorite poet by a country mile.)
Sometimes I say “From Kipling”, sometimes I say “From the vantage point of 1919”, and sometimes I get lazy and leave it as an exercise to the student. ;-P
