I agree with you that Will seems determined to view 0bama as a product of the “progressive” strain in American politics, rather than motivated primarily by something outside it and even more sinister. 0bama adopts the mantle of an American “progressive” when it suits his purpose, but he's really far closer to a Herbert Marcuse type of figure than he is to Wilson.

This quote from Marcuse sure sounds like the ultimate goal of the 0bama agenda to me:

“Liberating tolerance, then, would mean intolerance against movements from the Right and toleration of movements from the Left.”[4]

“Surely, no government can be expected to foster its own subversion, but in a democracy such a right is vested in the people (i.e. in the majority of the people). This means that the ways should not be blocked on which a subversive majority could develop, and if they are blocked by organized repression and indoctrination, their reopening may require apparently undemocratic means. They would include the withdrawal of toleration of speech and assembly from groups and movements which promote aggressive policies, armament, chauvinism, discrimination on the grounds of race and religion, or which oppose the extension of public services, social security, medical care, etc”

But the mere fact that Will is now calling 0bama a “radical” is something. That is was allowed in the pages of the Washington Compost is even more astonishing.

We have a Republic, not a democracy. Our Founders understood the threat of the tyranny of the majority, which is why we have the Constitution. Unfortuantely, the Left believes in a "living Constitution," which means they can say they can define what it means. Instead of limiting government, they want to use it to increase government power over us and define what our rights are.

But the mere fact that Will is now calling 0bama a “radical” is something. That is was allowed in the pages of the Washington Compost is even more astonishing.

Yeah, a radical like Wilson, LBJ, and FDR. I had it with Will a few years ago when I heard him speak at a CPAC dinner where he lectured us on how we had to accept amnesty. The attendees booed and shouted at him, which stopped Will in his tracks. He looked like a deer in the headlights. He couldn't understand our reaction, which was astounding to us. Somehow, the Rule of Law is an alien concept to Will.

Will is an inside the beltway type who identifies with the political elite who know what is best for us. He lives in a bubble divorced from reality.
