It is the ONLY fast food place where you can understand the person in headphones. It is the ONLY place where everyone greets you with full friendliness. It is the ONLY drive through where you can peer into the kitchen and see upbeat kids (KIDS! WITH JOBS! Not adult illegals) busily doing things like grilling fresh burgers, onions, and chopping and frying actual potatoes!

No one ever has an attitude, no one looks like they crawled over the border yesterday, no one looks bored to tears or scary.

GD FORBID PEOPLE LOOK AMERICAN!!!!!!!

Oh, and at the one I go to, there are cheerful black, white, Asian, and maybe Hispanic, can’t think of one in particular HAPPY KIDS working. It is the only burger place we stop at.

Whether English is good or not is not at question in that sentence. What the author was looking for was an adverb that modified the action of speaking. English didn’t require modification, the speaking of it did. You could in theory speak good English, poorly.

"I am well". "Well" In this case is an adjective meaning "healthy" or "successful". Adjectives precede nouns or follow static verbs such as "taste" or "seem"' or the cupola "be". It tastes sweet. He seems tired. She is quick. I am pedantic.

Adverbs work on action verbs such as "speak". She speaks quickly.

I speak good English, not the English of London or Sydney or SE D.C. I also speak English well, not poorly.

Back to beer, brats, and the ball game. Have a good weekend!

Every in and out that I have eaten at has exclusively young, congenial people working there. They all move quickly and efficiently and put out a good product.

It is a good business model and I can see where they would hesitate to hire a forty something man and risk ruining the chemistry of the team.

That would be age discrimination, which is every bit as illegal as racial discrimination.

But if other younger people who are applying that are just as capable, are you not going to hire them? Would that be fair to them?

Not entirely. I could go apply for a job as a basketball player in the NBA and they would not hire me.

First of all I am too old, too short, and I can't jump very well. That would not be discrimination because they would be able to tell by looking at me that I would not be able to help the team of talented athletes perform. Just by looking at me. They do not have to give me a tryout and let me play a couple of games.

Likewise, an experienced person would be able go judge that an older person probably would not be able to complement a team of bright, young, college prep students who have bought into the culture of the company.

Let me give you an example. When I was in high school I worked as a dishwasher in a cafeteria type restaurant. Everything worked very smoothly until they hired an ex-con as a dishwasher. Our job was to wash dishes, mop floors and whatever else anyone asked us to do.

The ex-con soon started complaining about being disrespected and resorted to intimidating his supervisors.

An experienced owner would have realized that the ex-con would not be able to function in the environment and not have hired him in the first place. Even if he might have worked well someplace else.
