Romney Says He Likes Parts of 'Obamacare'
Austin Statesman ^ | 9/9/12 | AP

"Of course there are a number of things that I like in health care reform that I'm going to put in place," he said in an interview broadcast Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." ''One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage."

Romney also said he would allow young adults to keep their coverage under their parents' health-insurance.

Those provisions have been two of the more popular parts of Obama's Affordable Care Act.

"I say we're going to replace Obamacare. And I'm replacing it with my own plan," Romney said. "And even in Massachusetts when I was governor, our plan there deals with pre-existing conditions and with young people."

Romney wants to unload the mandate yet keep the preexisting condition coverage of Obamacare.I wonder who pays for requiring private insurers to keep the preexisting condition coverage.Healthy insureds will see astronomical premium increases to subsidize the requirement of coverage for the unhealthy at the same premium rates as the healthy. There are no free ponies. Repeal and starting over and not replacement is the only route

Sorry it is Romney’s position, his tactics that are going to suppress turn-out. Not a stupid article.

Look at the track record.

They enter the convention fully unified and the establishment just couldn’t resist they make a power play and fracture the unified front.

Now Romney has the nomination locked more truth comes out.

First it was repeal Obamacare
Then it was replace and replacement Obamacare
Now it is replace with Romneycare.

Now we all know why SCOTUS did what it did. They met with the Romney camp and had to preserve the approach because it would have restored power back to the US Constitution and no progressive can allow that.

Get ready for Amnesty as well.

It’s the correct argument, health care is a service not a right. You may have a right at access but your neighbor should not be obligated to play your keeper and prop up your life by force.

Is this a limited government site, did I take a wrong turn and ended up at DU?

Dear chuckee,

“Romney wants to unload the mandate yet keep the preexisting condition coverage of Obamacare.”

There are other ways to cover folks with pre-existing conditions than mandating that all health insurance companies provide guaranteed issue.

I'd like to see President Romney's proposed replacement before I have a fit about it.

I just watched the MTP interview. Romney is in favor of total repeal and replace. And he would include reforms like preexisting conditions. This is really a tempest in a tea pot.

The vast majority of the people like Obamacare's preexisting conditions and insuring children up to age 26 on their parents' policy provisions. Romney would be a fool to say that his replacement plan would not contain these elements.

For the love of God...the BO campaign gets a few points bounce from the convention and Romney runs screaming right back to his MA leftist roots. This is the biggest hold-my-nose vote I think I will ever have cast in my life. If he keeps this crap up, my motivation to stand in line to vote will die a slow death.

I just heard from Mitt again, asking for support. I went to his site and where it asked if I was having trouble sending a donation I inserted the following:
Romney Says He Likes Parts of ‘Obamacare’

What part of get the Government out of my healthcare don’t you understand? Limited Government operating in the Black! Clean House, close the bloated Departments and give power back to the states and to the people.

I doubt it will get to the ears of anyone that matters but maybe someone here has a better idea how to make Mitt feel the heat.
As Mitt exposes his belief that the Government is “Nanny who knows better and must protect us” there needs to be a way to make him know there is a cost to that posture. If we stay silent we deserve what we get. How many times has BO walked back his stance hours after getting heat in the blogosphere. I think we need to educate Mitt about the voice of the people. He needs to be Freeped!

Pre-existing coverage, is covered.

Cool.

That is one thing about healthcare which basically sucks.

Bring it. I’m all for this part.

I don’t consider them to be the same. You agree to things like mortgages and cars. Diabetes, cancer ,those things you don’t. I don’t feel bad for insurance company’s when they pay out. They have that risk factored in .

The Federal govt has ZERO legit authority to be mucking about with health care in any form. Period.

I don’t give a f*ck who “liked” parts of it. They are wrong.

Did anyone happen to notice that this article is from the AUSTIN STATESMAN that is very democrat and left leaning? Or that they have editorials salivating and slobbering at the thought of a ‘democrat Texas’? That they joyously wept over the dem convention featuring the castro brothers while dissing Ted Cruz at the republican convention?
There are plenty of things I don’t like about Romney, but let’s have some truth in packaging here. They friggin’ cherry picked quotes without giving ANY context. You will forgive ne for being just a tad skeptical.

Well we are also going to vote for Mitt as is everyone in our family and all of our friends. But we are not living in a dreamworld where Mitt and Paul Ryan prevent the total economic collapse that is coming. Nor will they roll back the police state that has been installed in this county that will eventually ignite a civil war.

No we are voting for Romney/Ryan to get rid of the worst hoax ever perpetrated on the American public. The host is just ridding itself of the parasite.

Keep buying beans and bullets because you will still need them at some point.

Yes but you need food, shelter, clothing and family planning. Plus for psychological purposes you need “entertainment”; once you rationalize one subsidy you pave the way for other “requirements”.

You want government to force insurance companies to cover everything by force? What will that eventually do? Not too hard to think about the ramifications of future obligations, care, and cost. Have fun creating your Brave New World because the ending and “requirements” will be something else.

I guess Medicare/Medicaid are failures, time to rearrange the deck because people have chosen security over liberty and economic independence.

I hate to break this to all of you, but the Republican Party was fully on-board with most ObamaCare provisions despite their political posturing at the time.

The whole purpose of ObamaCare is to serve as the first step in separating medical insurance from employment ... thereby removing one of the largest cost items from the accounting ledger of every major U.S. corporation. The GOP is 100% behind this, but was perfectly content to let this jug-eared dupe in the White House and that hag Speaker of the House stand up and put the whole thing together.

It's a limited government site, except when it isn't - that would be liberal Romney is a lesser evil than Hussein. Think good things about Romney so he is elected, then you can reverse your thinking to see him as he really is, then yell about it and that will be okay then.

Great post and you are right. I would also like to add that insurance companies love Obamacare. Sure they will have to pony up for people with pre-existing conditions, but they are getting a huge new pool of healthy customers to offset that cost who won’t cost them anything. And they knew the system was unsustainable in the long run so this was far better than a single payer system for them. Frankly, if you aren’t invested in that industry yet, now is the time to get in on it.
