back in the 70s if I recall, the head of the NYC teachers union said when students start paying union dues,then we’ll start caring about students....
The quote is disputed (naturally!) But it was Al Shanker, president of the United Federation of Teachers, who was quoted as saying: “When schoolchildren start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of school children.”
