Contrary to J Street and Media Claims, Former IDF Chief Halutz Is Hawkish on Iran

Former Israel Defense Force Chief of Staff Dan Halutz is being shepherded around the United States to talk about the international crisis with Iran. The anti-Netanyahu group J Street is promoting Halutz as critical of Israeli policy and supportive of their position of opposing military action.

But at the first two talks given by Halutz, one of which was attended by a Jewish Press reporter and the other of which can be can be viewed online, it appears that Halutz’s positions are far more complex and nuanced than J Street and their fellow promoters understand.

What is Halutz saying?

On negotiations: “negotiations have failed”; on diplomacy: “enough Viennese coffee without results”; on sanctions: without the participation of China, Russia and India – all of which have been given exemptions by the US government – the sanctions will take too long to work; and on the issue of “red lines,” the problem isn’t that they are too bellicose, it is that they give the enemy an advantage you don’t want it to have

In particular, without China, Russia and India’s full participation in sanctions – all of which received exemptions from the United States — the impact on the Iranian economy has been too small to encourage the regime to cease its path to nuclear weapons.

Obama has been fragging Israel/Netanyahu for 3+ years now. Sanctions, sanctions, sanctions Obummer lectures while all the while, the US is giving waivers & making sanctions ineffective (not that they would work if fully implemented). Time for Bibi to lob a couple back Obummer's way before O takes Israel over the cliff along with America.

As I recall, at the last J Street conference they were very happy to have an official Israeli representative (Deputy Ambassador?) who came in and told them they were hurting Israel. They clapped a lot less at the end of his speech than they did at the beginning. but they still got the PR bump from having a high ranking Israeli government official address their group, and the only people who heard the scolding were the kool-aid drinkers in the room when he spoke.

I wonder whether they actually don’t care what these people say, as long as they can tell the rest of the non-listening, or non-paying attention part of the world that they are having people of this rank speak. And unless people actually hear the words coming out of Halutz’s mouth, they’re likely to believe he said whatever J Street said he said — UNLESS, of course, there are more articles like this one to tell the truth.
