“Nakoula called the Coptic Bishop of Los Angeles, Bishop Serapion, and denied any involvement.”
The Bishop said a few days ago that he knew him but he didn’t attend Church.
Actually Bishop Serapion said that Nakoula only attended his home parish sporadically. (Even in a close-knit community like the Coptic church in the U.S. it is very unlikely that a bishop would know one of his flock who didn’t attend church at all.)
Still, the question is, why did the not-particularly-pious Nakoula go to the trouble of calling his bishop to deny involvement?
I’m wondering whether there isn’t a convoluted money trail here — given Nakoula’s past — and Nakoula is being played as a patsy by Egyptian Salafists who wanted a provocation supposedly created by Copts and Jews. Did he produce the film, but not the dubs posted to YouTube? Is he really the “Sam Bacile” who opened the YouTube account — a question that, alas, can’t be answered without him admitting it, if he is, or access to the IP addresses from which the account was opened and the videos uploaded to prove one way or the other otherwise?
