Political reporters on Twitter are saying they are standing by for a Romney media availability on the video released today by Mother Jones of Romney at a May fundraiser speaking frankly of his thoughts on Obama's base voters and their entitlement mentality, aka the 47% who pay no federal income taxes.

The media and GOP-E have jumped ugly on Romney tonight.

Steve Holland, Reuters: Romney at press avail to respond to video says his comments weren't "elegantly stated," and "could have said it in a more effective way."

Of course I like what Romney (supposedly) said, but it's not coming off well, from what I see... especially what I see on CNN and MSNBC. Grrr...

If you wait to see anything good over there, you will be waiting forever.

Another point is that the reason there is this 47% is because Obama is failing

Look here moron, it takes just a second to find an exception to your claim ~ http://www.irs.gov/uac/Form-2438,-Undistributed-Capital-Gains-Tax-Return ~ there are, of course, others.

IRS has thousands of different forms for all sorts of things. When you have a complex financial situation you will probably use more of them. When you have a simple financial situation you may use fewer of them.

Romney could seal the deal with this one...stand strong for what he meant and stand tough against the little media propaganda tools. without knowing it, the dopes have handed Romney a golden opportunity

That's how I see it, too.

Quite honestly, the 47% figure may be a bit high.

Oh, I agree, especially since most employers don't even want full time workers, and millions now don't even make enough to pay fed taxes.

I would agree with maybe 20 percent of the country being nothing but freeloaders who spend their days depending on big gov, with no desire to work, but 47 percent?

47% is a lot of people, and I'd bet at least half of those simply do not make enough working to pay fed taxes.

Different issues ~ paying taxes and looking for a job.

LotS of folks get in trouble with the tax guys because they lose their jobs late in the year ~ just a couple of months can really screw you up ~ if, for instance, you bought a new car instead of setting aside money to tied you over a bad period.

Follow the thread back ~ use the numbers at the bottom of the post. Then don’t bother me with that question again.

You’d actually see more prosecutions for nonpayment of taxes.

I just read an overview of Romney’s comments - I see a downside. there are plenty of people in the 47% that will/would vote for Romney. Maybe Romney doesn’t realize that. They may find his remarks insulting. The media will definitely capitalize on this latest opportunity. Hopefully it doesn’t do too much damage.

Insulting? Maybe not in the way you think.

In response to Romney's comments, there are some in the 47% who will look in the mirror, not like what they see, and step over the line to join the 53%. They'll be motivated by shame and anger and a desire to better themselves.

To those in this group who will be receptive, Romney needs to deliver this admonition like a stern father.

i wonder what % of the 47% are there because of government obstacles in the form of regulations, taxes, licenses, etc?

I asked a question about whether he did, in fact, have such understanding. Years ago i learned to never accept on faith that a rich guy with such and so credentials and reputation actually knew what he was up to.

All you need to do to learn that lesson is have a federal job close enough to the APPOINTEES to have to work with them.

I hope you understand that's where they get those appointees from ~ the ranks of the big donors or bundlers ~ sometimes the rich dude himself, sometimes his worthless brother in law, or maybe a friend he met in a bar.

Why Romney should be immune from that consideration is something I will never understand. So, does he know the tax system and tax laws or doesn't he.

That’s not what you said ~ you said you needed only 1040 ~ which is total unsupportable nonsense.
