VIDEO: Mitt Romney Responds to ’47 Percent’ Comment, Says It Wasn’t “Elegantly Stated”
Fox News ^ | September 17, 2012

Republican candidate Mitt Romney responded to criticism after a video surfaced of him calling out 47 percent of Americans for not paying income taxes, saying they all feel entitled to government handouts and will vote for President Obama no matter what. In the video, Romney can be heard saying that it’s not his job to convince those people to vote for him, but rather he needs to focus on independent voters.

Romney defended to the tape, saying, “It doesn’t capture the question, so I don’t know precisely what was asked, but I think it was about my campaign and how I’d be able to get the majority of voters to support me.”

The GOP nominee asked for the entire video to be released. He said that it was not “elegantly stated” and that he was “speaking off the cuff.”

Romney went on to say that it’s a message he plans on continuing to carry....

My father never made over $38,000 a year with a family of six. My mother stayed home with us. He was all for a flat tax before it was popular. He thought it was the fairest way to tax, and felt no envy for those that made more money than he did. I’m sure he would have liked to have made more money, but he was proud to put in an honest days work and provide a home, clothing and food for us. Where have honest people gone? My father passed away a few years back. Maybe that’s where they’ve all gone. We were eligible for free lunch at school a few years but he refused— a father provided food for his family as long as it was humanly possible. No, he wasn’t a millionaire, but he was honest and
hard working. My true hero. Even back then, I couldn’t get braces because they cost to much. Other kids whose parents didn’t work got Medicaid to get them braces. My teeth weren’t bad, but I wanted that “perfect smile” too. After college I got a job and braces. The orthodontist said I really didn’t need them, but it was a sign of independence for me.

“Are these the same 47 % who are guilty of “NOT PAYING THEIR FAIR SHARE?” “

Yes they are!

SS and Medicare withholding are not taxes. They are contributions to Federal Insurance Programs (that's what "FICA" means.) The promise and expectation is that you will receive that entitlement when your time is due: no one but John Roberts (and liberals) is confused that contributions to a public pension and a public old-age health-care fund are taxes. They aren't, and it's time to stop pretending they are. When you pay into a fund, and eventually get your money back, that isn't a tax.

The 47% of Americans who pay no actual taxes are deadbeats, and it's time they started paying. We need to have this debate; we need to find out what kind of country this is. It's time to stop running from it.

If he’d have been talking like this in the primaries, I might have been more supportive.

Fair Share? You BET they don’t how about the woman who got plastic surgery from selling EBT cards? Obama’s stash goes far. Entitled? You betcha. Fake disability.

Romney SHOULD say what’s fair about 47% NOT paying any tax? Everyone paddles in this boat except those who TRULY need government assistance.

Also, love your tag lines, both of you! Roberts was, IMHO blackmailed about his adopted children. Something mighty fishy about “the Chicago way” and that Roberts had NO constitutional reason for his vote on Ozippy care. Typical bottom feeder lefty Axelrod question to Roberts perhaps: “Nice little kids you got there, Roberts....sure would be sad to see a problem with that adoption, right?”

My question is what’s he doing in California of all States?

He was out pandering to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

It's ironic, in part of his 47% video comment, he said, "Had I been born of Mexican parents, I'd have a better shot of winning this."

For what it’s worth, here’s how I slapped down the libs that were having a field day with this on my local newspaper’s articles forum:

The liberals will try to wield this statement as a scare tactic while painting Romney as a cold-hearted elitist, and it might work. However, it’s a dangerous game of high-stakes chicken they play. Because any average Joe on the street could tell them that it’s just as likely that it will resonate with hard-working Americans who are sick and tired of the able-bodied freeloaders. They’re also sick and tired of being told that Social Security and Medicare, which was picked from their pocket every payday, won’t be there for them because Big Daddy Government went on a spending spree. They may also be smart enough to see that the only way out of this economic black hole we’ve dug for ourselves is a combination of reining in spending, creating jobs, and putting a viable plan for energy independence in place - and that Obama either can’t or won’t do any of those things.

This will be forgotten 72 hours. Thats the flip side of an uninformed, for the most part ignorant and stupid electorate. They can be emotionally pushed in one direction suddenly, but then gaffes and what not have a very short mental short life. This one is just best waited out and forgotten. Main thing will be to have scandal after scandal on Obama in the seven day leading up to the election, in that news cycle, if at all possible. TV ad barrage may be the only way to go around the MSM on it.

Osama dead (look what good THAT did)

As I recall, they wanted to avoid exactly what is happening now by dumping Osama's filthy corpse in the ocean. But No Brain Hussein chose to make a campaign event out of it, and fired up the entire Muslim world. He politicized 9/11, exactly what the Rats accused Bush of doing.

“It Wasn’t “Elegantly Stated””..........Big deal, the truth is the truth inspite of the way the news media reports it.

Well, I certainly pray that “You didn’t build that” does sink Obama in November but, what I was alluding to is it hasn’t sunk him yet; he’s still very much in the race; according to the polls.

Best case... what percentage of the voting public will vote for obama? He got 53% last time. I’d say bottom line is 47% and those are who romney is referencing. He is right, it is the truth and we cannot allow the truth to become defeat. **** the 47%. They have ****ed up my entire life long efforts and I will NEVER forgive nor will I forget.

Stand your ground, Romney, and quite waffling to criticism, especially in this case when you were telling nothing more than what many of us already now concerning America’s growing addiction with dependency: THE TRUTH! =.=
