The Social Security Administration has released new data revealing that 8,786,049 American workers are collecting federal disability insurance payments in September. That sets yet another record for the number of Americans on disability.

The 8,786,049 workers taking federal disability in September is a net increase of 18,108 from the 8,767,941 workers who took federal disability in August.

Over the past 45 years, the number of American workers taking federal disability payments has increased four-fold relative to the number actually working. …

Given that they throw disability at everyone except who needs it, of course the numbers will rise and rise. this is where things stood back in July.

Yep. Once they no longer qualify for unemployment they can go straight to disability payments. Once on disability, you're on permanently. Rush was talking about this last week.

Hope and change.

speaking of that.. My wife was talking with her lawyer today. As her issues advance it’s getting harder for her to do the day to day chores around the house.

we are training our 8 year old to do the laundry and dishes because it’s getting hard for the wife to fold laundry/hold dishes and lifting? Forgetaboutit.

Her lawyer said it could be a few more years (been waiting about a year now).

thankfully we planned right and only have our house payment to make. (and day to day bills)

People with fake mental issues are clogging up the system.

I’m going for my court date mid Oct. It will be 2.5 years since I began the process.

I have Chrons disease and am dealing with multiple neuro issues and joint degeneration from years of high level steroid therapy. Also note that I have had several intestinal resections and require a walker.

What do you think the odds are of being rejected even with a lawyer?

This BS REALLY upsets me. I worked, paid into the system and I have to watch disability handed out like candy for ‘stress’. America. What a country it has become.

don’t forget section 8, in some very wealthy zip codes they might give you $3500 monthly rent vouchers plus chip in for utilities (like 90%) and free high speed internet and cell phones too

By "depressing" I mean it's just despicable how many people who really have no business collecting disability (for life?!) ARE collecting it, but so many who SHOULD qualify for disability because of legitimate issues are being denied.

WHAT is going on in this country?

Been that way for a while.

My first go around on the disability carousel was in the early 90s. After spending a couple months (seperatley over a couple year period and several surgeries) it took a sane judge with 2 post binders worth of my medical records to get me approved. He said to the lawyer “I don’t need his life history’. The lawyer replied “It’s not. That’s his recent records.”

After a couple years my condition improved and lo and behold, I went back to work. Unfortunately poop happens and I’m back in the medical hole again.

If you think that’s bad, you should have been at the DES office when the welfare queen demanded new bicycles for her kids so they wouldn’t ‘feel bad’ about having old ones.

No, this stupidity has been going on for a while now.

I have an adult disabled son. When both my husband and I were laid off in 2009, we lost our insurance and ability to pay for his medical bills. My son was approved in four weeks for Medicaid first time without a lawyer. No hassle, just provide the names and dates of all the various doctors and hospitalizations. I assume if one is truly disabled, one doesn’t need a lawyer. You might want to try without and save the money.

You were EXTREMELY lucky. My lawyer from the 90s and the current one both told me the same thing almost verbatim. They deny you administratively and force the court case in order to try and make you go away.

Oh yes! She was LIVID that they would not immediately give her the money. BTW, I knew this woman. 2 weeks later her kids had new bicycles.
