Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis has created a monster. Soothing that monster wont be easy.
Indeed, Lewis rhetoric that Chicago Public Schools cant be trusted worked too well. Now teachers dont know a good deal when they see one.
Instead of breaking into a victory song when the CPS caved and gave up on many of its accountability demands, the unions House of Delegates opted to drag the strike out a couple of more days.

I want it to drag on for weeks as a reminder to voters here in Michigan.

Au contraire. She knows EXACTLY what she is doing. She knows that Obama is panicked and desperate, and he will agree to ANYTHING that removes difficulties from his path to re-election. AQ knows it and so do Chicago Teachers. Better to let him twist in the wind for a few days and see what else you can get.
All these people are nothing but selfish Prix!
Ho Ho, Hey Hey,
Communism's here to stay!
At least Karen looks like she’s eating well.
Perfect symbol of a public employee union.
Yup, now the teachers get their 16% raise and will be be payed an average of $80,000 per year before benefits which include lavish health care and pension programs and the illiteracy rate of the students they teach will increase from the already astronomical 79% to a higher level of illiteracy due to the even lower level of accountability and standards demanded in their contract.
A lot of the teachers in the Chicago School system are totally unqualified are almost as illiterate as the students the teach and graduate. In fact, many are graduates of the school system they now teach in.
Patronage and nepotism gets you your job in Chicago's Public School System, not your eduction, qualifications or ability to teach
The people of Chicago are getting screwed and they deserve it for electing these clowns.
Decades ago we lived in Michigan and a school bond issue was turned down by voters in our area. The powers that be decided to eliminate school busses for students living within about a mile of the school. It didn't take more than a week until one of the students was hit by a car and killed. Suddenly school bus service was restored and the whole issue seemed to disappear until the next election.
Our school district tried passing a millage a few months ago and were madder than hell when it was turned down. They were openly upset that people without kids had voted.
Now they’re trying to sneak the same issue by again (Vote Sept 25th) and I’m playing Paul Revere and pissing them off all over again.
Among the things they claim is a dire need is a “Practice Gymnasium”. Its not like they have a pro basketball team or even a big 10 team. They’re a local public high school and don’t need to blow millions on status symbols.
We had a “practice gymnasium” when I was in high school. It was called “The Y”.
When you get labor leaders from the occupy movement, such things happen.
My school was so old we had separate Boys and Girls gymnasiums at opposite ends of the building. Neither was large enough for a regulation basketball game. They had to play home games at an offsite gym.
“We had a practice gymnasium when I was in high school. It was called The Y.”
Here in Northern California, all the high schools, and I mean “all” now have covered teachers parking covered with solar panels. Probably “stimulus money.”
I mean we have to protect our teachers brand new cars don’t we?
Wait until all you taxpayers find out that there are now or soon will be outlets for the teachers to plug into so they can recharge their $40,000 cars for free—because they are such ‘Eco-friendly’ cars.
They certainly don’t intend to pay for that power themselves, I can bet you.
