Meningitis Outbreak Hits HIV-Positive Men in New York

New York City health officials are investigating an outbreak of meningitis among HIV-positive men, one of whom has died while another remains in critical condition.

“Men experiencing high fever, headache, stiff neck and rash are advised to immediately contact their health care providers,” the health department said in a statement Thursday, adding that all four men who have contracted the disease are gay or have had sex with men.

Also ironic that leftists are big on evolution yet say there’s a “gay gene.” Wouldn’t natural selection kill off anything that stopped the continuation of the species?

According to that logic, there oughtn't to be any hereditarily transmitted conditions which, e.g., prevent the stricken from attaining, say, puberty - but there are.

Neisseria Meningitidis is a common bacterium that is part of the natural flora of up to 35% of the population, depending on where, and how you live. It's heterotrophic, which means that it relies on a 'host' for nutrition, reproduction, etc. It may be colonizing your nose right now, and you would never know it unless you asked your doctor to do a nasal swab/culture for it.
You could be walking around, perfectly healthy, and sneeze in the presence of someone whose immune system is somehow compromised, and they will get sick. HIV, by definition, compromises the immune system. If your body has not seen it before, N. Menigitidis is an extremely virulent, lethal bug. Even though this is a common critter in the community, even one case of N. Meningitidis illness is considered a public health emergency. N.Meningitidis bacteremia kills fast; without immediate treatment it is uniformly fatal. With treatment, it's a coin toss. This shit is no joke.

At the National STD Prevention Conference on Wednesday, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) released some astonishing data regarding rates of infection among MSM (Men who have Sex with Men).

The data indicate that rates of HIV infection among gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) are more than 44 times higher than rates among heterosexual men and more than 40 times higher than women. Rates of syphilis, an STD that can facilitate HIV infection and, if left untreated, may lead to sight loss and severe damage to the nervous system, are reported to be more than 46 times higher among gay men and other MSM than among heterosexual men and more than 71 times higher than among women.
