Gadaffi flew in the face of the traditional Arabs, making a decision to bring Libya into the modern era. That and 25 cents to Obama got him killed and now the entirety of North Africa is now a US security risk.
What surprises me is that so few Americans have figured it out, believing wrongly that Gadaffi was a horrible tyrant. The other lesson that should be learned is to never put a queer in charge of a foreign post.
