WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent last month, dropping below 8 percent for the first time in nearly four years. The rate fell because more people found work, a trend that could impact the presidential election.

UE IS a factor in the calculation, that is the entire point! If you don’t collect it, you are not counted. If you do collect it you are counted.

LOL!

Do you know what continuing claims are? According to this article by Bloomberg, they were 3,281,000.

According to this report from the BLS, the number of unemployed is 12,088,000.

Now pay attention, because this part involves math. There are 8,807,000 more unemployed than have been collecting unemployment for more than 2 weeks.

Let me know if you need any more help. I'm always glad to help.

Has a couple ideas on that: campaign hiring and college kids’ left their jobs in Aug instead of Sept.

I would like to think it’s an anomalous result instead of a corrupt one.

I hate to see the underemployed and discouraged workers get smacked in the face with this. Underemployed means you aren’t getting paid to your potential. that’s the BAM! in obama

“The revisions show employers added 146,000 jobs per month from July through September, up from 67,000 in the previous three months.”

OK, but jobs have to increase by about 200,000 per month just to keep pace with the number of young people coming of age to enter the work force. That means we are still losing ground, three and a half years after the banks got it turned around.

So the 7.8% figure counts ALL of the unemployed? LOL all you like but the 7.8% figure is what the media and others use to evaluate the labor market. Right or wrong that is a fact. So if there are millions not counted, my point stands. Get off of your arrogant high horse.

So the 7.8% figure counts ALL of the unemployed?

Yes, it counts all those who are looking.

LOL all you like but the 7.8% figure is what the media and others use to evaluate the labor market.

Yes, just as it always has.

So if there are millions not counted, my point stands.

Your point was that the 8.8 million unemployed who are not collecting benefits are not counted. If that were the case, the unemployment rate would be close to 2%.

Sorry if pointing out your error makes you sad.

Really, see the info below:

These data are not used to measure total unemployment because they exclude several important groups. To begin with, not all workers are covered by UI programs. For example, self-employed workers, unpaid family workers, workers in certain not-for-profit organizations, and several other small (primarily seasonal) worker categories are not covered. In addition, the insured unemployed exclude the following:

Unemployed workers who have exhausted their benefits
Unemployed workers who have not yet earned benefit rights (such as new entrants or reentrants to the labor force)
Disqualified workers whose unemployment is considered to have resulted from their own actions rather than from economic conditions; for example, a worker discharged for misconduct on the job
Otherwise eligible unemployed persons who do not file for benefits
Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics

Um, care to think again. Sorry if pointing out your mistake with facts makes you sad.

Really, see the info below:

Thank you for listing all the reasons they don't use receiving unemployment benefits as the criteria for counting someone as jobless.

What was your point again?

The “real” unemployment rate is 14.7%.

and that is seasonally adjusted.

All I can say is that if the MSM manages to drag Obama across the finish line, may each and every one of them be the first to lose everything when the Obama economy come crashing down in his second term.

My point remains that a large swath of unemployed are not included in the BLS numbers. If you want to maintain that EVERYONE is being counted, then continue to bathe in ignorant bliss.

Which swath?

If you want to maintain that EVERYONE is being counted, then continue to bathe in ignorant bliss.

For now, I'll bathe in the satisfaction of educating you about unemployment benefits and their role in counting the unemployed (zero).

More stupidity and ignorance from Chicago. Just go away, you will not get the last word because I will not allow myself to be shouted down by an Obama troll from Chicago trying to hide it with platitudes.

Keep shilling for your boy, those with a brain are not drinking your brand of kool aid.

No, being a shill is what makes you a shill. Denying that the numbers are cooked also does so.
