Conservatives: Jobs data is phoney By: Kevin Robillard October 5, 2012 09:51 AM EDT

The release Friday of unexpectedly positive jobs numbers immediately touched off a conspiracy theory among conservatives, who suggested the data was being manipulated.

“Chicago style politics is at work here,” Florida GOP Rep. Allen West wrote on his Facebook page. “Somehow by manipulation of data we are all of a sudden below 8 percent unemployment, a month from the Presidential election. This is Orwellian to say the least and representative of Saul Alinsky tactics from the book ‘Rules for Radicals’- a must read for all who want to know how the left strategize.”

West added, “Trust the Obama administration? Sure, and the spontaneous reaction to a video caused the death of our Ambassador……and pigs fly.”

While West is the only government official to buy into the manipulation idea so far, he has plenty of company in the conservative movement.

“Either the Federal Reserve, which has its fingers on the pulse of every element of the economy, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics manufacturing survey report are grievously wrong or the number used to calculate the unemployment rate are wrong, or worse manipulated,” Americans for Limited Government declared in a press release. “Given that these numbers conveniently meet Obama’s campaign promises one month before the election, the conclusions are obvious.”

The group’s president, Rick Manning, declared the president had hired “infamous Iraqi Information Minister Baghdad Bob to calculate the unemployment rate. Anyone who takes this unemployment report serious is either naïve or a paid Obama campaign adviser.”

It’s going to be too little too late, because (1) the real jobless rate is not anywhere close to 8%; (2) Americans do not “feel” like this is a good economy by any stretch of the immagination; (3) most voters have already made up their mind.

This drop is indeed “magical”, being the best improvement ever witnessed in 30 years, and in an economy growing at an enemic rate.

You’d have to be the worst kind of sheeple/sheeperal to believe this crap.

I believe Team Obama said unemployment would be around 5.6% by this time?

This is absolutely brilliant, whoever fudged the numbers thank you. I absolutely positively see good in this, everyone knows that this is a desperate bid for re-election, and it has completely backfired. Obama hasn’t a chance. Once Romney starts running things, that number will start to truly drop.

Romney needs to start hammering the “REAL” unemployment. For the first time in a LOOONG time the GOP actually has a candidate who could explain such a thing clearly

I have seen a surge of patients in my practice being approved for Social Security Disability. No doubt that 0bama has put the word out to the bureaucrats to approve as many applicants as possible in order to keep people off the workforce stats.

The jump in employment reported in September was almost certainly a statistical fluke,” said economist Dean Baker of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, in a research note, while acknowledging that the jobs data show that unemployment is decreasing. “It is common to have large monthly changes in the employment numbers that are not consistent with other economic data.”

Baker is a liberal.

That’s exactly what he did today right on cue. He said that if the number of people working in Jan. 2009 were counted the real rate would be over 11%.

Nice job, Mitt!
