Ryan cuts off Michigan reporter grilling him on gun violence, tax cuts

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Paul Ryan abruptly ended an interview with an ABC affiliate in Flint after the reporter tried to grill the vice presidential candidate on gun violence and tax cuts.

"Does the country have a gun problem?" WJRT's Terry Camp asked in a one-on-one interview.

"This country has a crime problem," Ryan responded. After the anchor pressed him on whether he thinks the country has a "gun problem," the self-described deer hunter elaborated, "If you take a look at the gun laws we have, I don't even think President Obama is proposing more gun laws. We have good, strong gun laws."

Camp challenged him again, and Ryan said, "We have to make sure we enforce our laws. We have lots of laws that aren't being properly enforced. We need to make sure we enforce these laws. But the best thing to help prevent violent crime in the inner cities is to bring opportunity to the inner cities." He credited the work of charities, civic groups, and churches with helping to instill "good discipline, good character" in civil society.

In an unlikely turn, the WJRT reporter followed up by asking, "And you can do all that by cutting taxes? With a big tax cut?"

"Those are your words, not mine," Ryan responded curtly. His press secretary Michael Steel interrupted from off-camera, "Thank you very much, sir."

As Ryan began taking off his mic, he commented, "That was kind of strange, you're trying to stuff words in people's mouths?"

Camp replied, "Well, I don't know if it's strange."

Michael Steel, not Michaele Steele. There is a Michael Steel that is or was John Boenher’s spokesman. Probably the same guy.

It was Mussolini who said, “The only thing reporters are good for is decorating lampposts!”

Hard to disagree with that.

Pray for America

Wake up Ryan:
1.) Journalists do not know right from wrong;
2.) Journalists are paid to advance the Liberal Agenda of the Media;
3.) Without Journalists’ support, Obama would be 10 to 20 % points lower on the Opinion Polls.

BTW, congrats to you and your staff!

I’d have to see it but from the description it doesn’t really sound like he walked off. He answered the questions including the tax one before commenting the interview had been weird.

He really doesn't like Republicans:
https://twitter.com/ABC12Terry
"Terry Camp‏@ABC12Terry
Its more than a day after the latest GOP debate, and yet I'm still very worried that one of these candidates will be the nominee." And that's his company sponsored account

The Romney Ryan team needs to follow Sununu and Gingrich's lead and continue to EXPOSE the media for being on the Democratic National Committee payroll. We no longer have any journalists. Every time these people request an interview Romney or Ryan simply have to ask the question, 'do you work for ABC or the DNC?' 'does ABC stand for All Barack Channel?' ... 'National Barack Channel'

The media is shameless and they have no moral compass. They have been getting away with this for so long they don't even care now. They will do anything while a dumbed-down public believes everything that they are spoon fed.

is that THE Michaele Steele was Ryan’s spokes folk??? Lordy I hope not

No that's not the former RNC chair. It's Ryan's spokesman who shares the same name as the former as former RNC chair, but it's spelled "Steel." He was also Boehener's press guy.

<<>> I was wondering the same thing. Could he have been reduced from RNC chairman to spokesperson? And if so, why him? He was a big help in causing us to lose the last election.

” Previous versions of this post incorrectly reported that WJRT is in Detroit.”

As if there was a difference between the two. It’s getting hard to tell all the time.

It’s been a long time since I saw Terry Camp, he certainly has grayed a bit. Still a biased liberal and one of the reasons we never have the TV news on at our house.

Funny thing about ambushes— you can pretend they aren’t there -and pray that when they are sprung your guys can push through; you can spot them -and avoid the major damage intended until you can better choose the stand ; or three you can refuse to step outside the wire. all three are a choice.

Yes, we have a gun problem. There are too many lawful, good citizens out there that need and want a gun to protect their families that are not permitted to have one, in violation of the 2nd amendment.

Apparently Terry Camp and his wife, Katie O’Meara, just enrolled their daughter in a local Catholic school.
