They basically have to do this. If PBS/NPR thinks that even one penny of their government funding stream is in jeopardy, they will drop every other subject and go 24/7 wall-to-wall with stories about all the wonderful things they do For Our Nation and all the terrible things that will happen if they have to fend for themselves.

They did it during Reagan, and they’ll do it now. They’re certainly making plans to do it if Romney wins.

If Obama wavers, NPR/PBS will drop his reelection as a subject in an instant.

The difference....there were only 4 TV channels during the Reagan years....

Their voice has shrunk and the only thing most people know is "Sesame Street" and there is not a channel out there that would not pick up that show, and we all know it.
