People who fervently support B/B will think that he did well, people who fervently support R/R will think the same for their slate. Each candidate got their slates’ points out to the public.
The deciders are the uncommiteds and the persuadables.
If the debate were basically to be considered a draw on substance, it comes down to demeanor [style] - and that is where Biden lost. The majority of uncommiteds and persuadables did not like what Biden did.
In 1960, historians generally agree that Nixon won on substance in the first debate.
HOWEVER, the public declared that Kennedy “won” that debate - and it was basically on style. Kennedy was well-rested and tanned. Nixon was sick with the flu and was sweating under the bright lights of the studio.
