Under deferred action — a program of the Obama administration that took effect in August — immigrants who arrived in the United States before age 16, graduated from high school or served in the military and do not have an extensive criminal record can stay for two years without the fear of deportation.
They are also eligible for a work permit, which can lead to a Social Security number. In Florida, immigrants with work permits can obtain a driver's license.

Where did you get the 400,000 number?
Heard it on the radio. Maybe it is made up. There was a discussion about the Latino vote here in AZ and how, within the decade, it will be the decider in most AZ elections. The Dream Act by Executive Order has really helped the Dems here. There are two races where it is very tight and it shouldn’t be so close. A Dem, Kyrsten Sinema, is running against a Conservative in the newly created 9th district. She has said things like ‘stay at home moms leech off their husbands and boyfriends’. Vernon Parker is the former Mayor of Paradise Valley. He is a Black Conservative who went to Georgetown for Law. He is running neck and neck against a Dem who trys to portray herself as a moderate. The Senate race for Jon Kyl’s seat shouldn’t be close either. But Carmona just had Clintoon out here at ASU to pump up support. What no one is pointing out is: Conservatives are supporters of THE LAW. We want all those who are legal to vote to have a voice. We just don’t want those who haven’t the right to vote affecting our elections.
Most aren’t motivated to become Americans - they are interested in free stuff and plunder.
I worked with the AZ Tea Party on SB 1070 and organized the demonstration in front of the Supreme Court in support of the law. I also have a second home in AZ.
I was curious about the source of the 400,000 number for AZ because the accepted number is about 1.8 million who might be eligible for the program nationwide. It seems way out of whack.
Obama's backdoor amnesty is unconstitutional. He should be impeached. Ten BP agents are suing the WH for ordering them not to enforce the law. The entire 7,000 members of the BP union voted a no-confidence resolution against the head of ICE, Morton, and his deputy.
Voter fraud disenfranchises all of us. It strikes at the very foundation of the nation. For me, it is a heinous offense that should be treated much more harshly.

I am as conservative as they come. But there needs to be some slack in the system somewhere. I know a young man that was brought here by his family (illegally) when he was 9. He graduated from high school at the top of his class. His father ultimately became a citizen through a previous amnesty program. He married a US citizen and they have 3 children. He is a Christian and a regular church attender. He would like to become a dentist but his status—neither Mexican nor American—makes the cost higher than others and thus is cost prohibitive. Surely there is a way for people, whether living outside the US or inside, to apply for some sort of status that could lead to citizenship. Perhaps those applying from an illegal status inside the US should pay tax penalties over several years based on income. But it is in America’s interest to bring these folks into the system.

The way Obama and all the bleeding hearts are going we will be stuck with both. I see no justice in this. The Hispanic pressure groups are against all deportations even of criminals among them

I looked on my radio station’s website and cannot find the interview where I got this statistic. I cannot find a number anywhere on the net either, so I guess I will have to withdraw the number. Sorry. But I did go on the Arizona Dream Act website and there is a link to register to vote. If anyone thinks the Dream Act Executive Order was for anything other than registering illegals, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell you.

Is he working? If so, he is doing so illegally. Does he have an SSN? If his father is a US citizen and his wife is, has he applied for citizenship under the sponsorship of his wife or father? This doesn't ring true.

If he was born in Mexico, he is a Mexican citizen. They have birthright citizenship like we do.

There is a way to do it legally. We admit 1.2 million legal immigrants annually. There are 4.7 million intending immigrants waiting overseas for their turn to enter. They have completed all of the paperwork, background investigations, physcials, etc. They are obeying the law.
Perhaps those applying from an illegal status inside the US should pay tax penalties over several years based on income. But it is in America’s interest to bring these folks into the system.
Paying a penalty puts you at the front of the line. Why should we allow those who broke our laws and entered illegally to get the objective of their crime, i.e., to stay and work here? What kind of message does that send to the people who did it the legal way? Is USA citizenship for sale? Immigration to America is a privilege, not a right.

I also know a young man who is brilliant. His parents were illegals who became citizens, had several children together in the US and divorced then had other children with their second spouses. Cesar was the only illegal in the family. He got stopped for a traffic violation in AZ and deported.
Somehow he ended up in Mexicali and went to work for Verizon, he has since been hired by another company and they moved him to Mexico City. He is doing well. Granted, all of his family and friends are in the US but he and others like him can help bring Mexico into the 21st century.
This kid could go to Mexico and work his way through medical school much more cheaply and establish a practice and stand a much better chance of immigrating legally.
I also believe in compassion but these kids will do great in Mexico if they look at it as an opportunity.
I live in a border town. What is happening here is the deported parents being illegal and the children actually are US citizens. It is kind of comical because many of these children weren’t allowed to learn Spanish and so they are as lost in Mexico as their parents were when they came to the US illegally but there are a lot of English speakers in border towns.
There are compassionate solutions that even conservatives might accept, number one is that they wouldn’t be eligible for any government freebies, but the dimocrats would never go for them.
