I live in Western Washington one of the most liberal areas in the country. It is incredibly frustrating and I can tell you that I work with a bunch of hard core union people. Sometimes I come home feeling a little mean and I apologize if I have come on a little too strong in this thread. Thank you for your service and have a good evening.
Spoken like a true gentleman. We all have our moments but few are big enough to admit it. Your humility is appreciated. As the discussions progress, sometimes we produce more heat than light. I know that I was guilty of that last night, too.
I just can't take another four years of having the Marxist in my living room on TV and radio.
Regardless of who wins the election, our nation needs lots of prayer. It will be governed by either the most liberal Democrat to ever hold the office of POTUS or the most liberal Republican to ever hold or run for that office.
My opposition to Mitt Romney is based on his politics and that of his family who were active opponents of both the Goldwater and Reagan Revolutions. I can understand tepid support of Romney by conservatives as a better option than Obama but what I can't understand is enthusiastic support for him by a conservative. It suggests to me that the person has not examined Romney's political history carefully or even worse, is deliberately turning a blind eye to it.
One distinction tends to get lost in these discussions, so it needs to be reiterated constantly. Most of those whom you were interacting with are critics of MormonISM. It is the institution of MormonISM that we detest not individual MormonS. All of us have friends or family who are Mormon.
We have far more in common than you probably imagine. Romney was not my candidate in the Primary; I was quite hostile towards him for exactly the reasons you mention.
If Romney is elected, it would not surprise me that we will be banding together in the primaries of 2016 to rally around a conservative alternative.

I did my graduate work at the UW. My extended peer group included about half a dozen Mormons. Did we ever have some spirited theological discussions but we have remained friends to this day.
About the only positive local election during my time there was voting Maria Cantwell out of her congressional seat (unfortunately, like a persistent case of shingles, she came back).
