Japan, US call off joint drill to 'retake' disputed islands fearing backlash from China

Japan and the United States have decided to cancel a joint security drill to recapture a remote island in Okinawa Prefecture, according to sources.

Tokyo and Washington were considering holding the drill on the uninhabited island of Irisuna as part of joint military exercise slated for November.

Sources said that the drill could lead to a backlash from Beijing, which has reacted harshly to Japan's nationalization of the Senkaku Islands, which are also claimed by China and Taiwan.

According to the Japan Times, a government source said that the decision to skip the Irisuna recapturing drill 'reflects the opinion of the prime minister's office'.

Another reason was opposition from residents on Okinawa Island, about 60 km away, where sentiment against US bases has flared up following allegations that a Japanese woman was raped by U.S. sailors on Tuesday, the report said.

According to the report, the sources said that in light of these factors, the Defense Ministry found it difficult to proceed with the exercise, although it is considering substitute drills.

Romney should say:

“I will not back down from executing scheduled drills with our allies, due to intimidation from our adversaries!”

The best bet for Japan is “colonization”, to send ships full of Japanese and supplies to live on the disputed islands as inhabitants. Many of them would be scientists conducting real research at the same time as commercial and residential development was going on.

Once they had quickly built up several facilities, invite a whole bunch of international researchers there as well, to give other nations a vested interest in accepting the islands as Japanese.

By de-emphasizing the military aspect, it is turned from a potential military-military conflict into a “Chinese territorial aggression against civilians” scenario, which terribly complicates things from a Chinese perspective.

Romney will have to have a “Line of Death” redux ala Reagan and Libya in many places around the world to re-establish free navigation of the oceans and put predators on notice. Reminds me of 1980 and Carter all over again with Boy Blunder and Hillary four years of pandering and bending over to the world.

We don’t have to start wars, just put the world back on notice, your foolishness will not be tolerated again.
