Sorry, to me with the exception of Wesley Clarke we have had great generals. Is Powell in the top tier? Not by any stretch of the imagination.
But he was a great general, It was when the uniform came off it all changed. But that is my opinion. Personally, I think he was the fall guy when he went in front of the UN and no one from the administration defended him.
I think what is great about Freepers is when we make a mistake, we admit it.
My comments about Powell being one of our greatest Generals was incorrect. I was referencing back to our first foray into Iraq where I thought Powell played a major role in the strategic planning of the 100 hour ground game.
As this event will go down as one of our greatest battles (I don’t think there could be much doubt there) It was of my opinion that the Generals that ran this deserved the accolades as one of the greatest.
What I failed to realize was Powell was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and not in the field.
So again, to any military members or others I may have offended, (Myself being military) I do apologize.
