Everything is fine here. More quality time with the family than I would like. ;)

I have no idea but I’m sure I could come up with some creative ideas!

Yep. A seaplane would be in order.

Thank you!

My power came back while I was sleeping. Central Hudson did a fantastic job considering the conditions. Bravo!

I spent most of the time on the phone with my mom. She lives about 500 feet from the evacuated zone A in NYC. She heard the transformer blow up ten blocks away, said the skies became bright. NYFD, NYPD and ambulances were all out. She’s without power now (obviously). She is concerned that the rats in the subway system will now move “uptown” - into basements. She’s referring to the rodent species in case anyone is confused.LOL.

This morning I checked the damage here. Just a few large branches down. At one point I had heard this big “thunk” sound hit against my house, turns out it was a piece styrofoam. LOL.

My garage is fine, Yay!

The Schoharie creek didn’t overflow, thanks to DEP deciding to lower the level of the Gilboa dam which is NYC’s water supply. I wonder if this made the impact on NYC?

It’s still raining here with a scattering of severe wind gusts. No one is driving, only utility trucks and DEP.

I’m glad this storm is behind us. Up here it acted just like TS Irene.

My heart goes out to the people who lost friends, family and their homes. They must be numb today.

Glad to hear all is well at your home and that your mom is safe, Rain Drop. Most of my friends in surrounding areas are without power...I feel so lucky that mine is still going. Heartbreaking to see photos of the Jersey shore devastation.

I talked with her this morning, they didn’t lose power or get any flooding. The only “damage” in her area was a tree branch broke.

Along those same lines I know that some people (not me of course) will use the cover of such events to “weed out” certain pesky trees that their local gub’ment (or HOA) would rather stay.

NN,

Thanks for another fine Surf's Up thread.
Lots of helpful & informative links, interesting FReeper anecdotal illumination and, surprisingly few disruption attempts by the usual messianic meathead types.

Empathy and offers of help will surely continue to stream out from FReepers to those good folks harmed by this beast through no fault of their own.
Along with our prayers and/or best wishes to those still in the path of the remnants thereof.
Such has always been the way here, and continues to reflect highly upon our members.

So thanks again for shouldering the cat-herding duty of 'moderating' something that no doubt served as a bit of sanity in a day & night & day of uncertainty and chaos.

FRegards . . .

...looked like Maryland was getting pounded.

&&
Parts of MD got hit harder, but we were very lucky. The wind howled like I have never heard it before — sometimes at nearly 50 mph sustained — but we suffered no serious damage even to our many trees.

What amazed us the most is that we did not lose power, although it flickered a few times. We fully expected to be without power for a day or more, and we were prepared.

Thanks be to God!

Hope your house fared as well. Prayers up.

Fascinating.

As I saw the animation, the first thing I thought of is that it looked like they were dancing.

Hi guys!

Currently sitting in a local restaurant/bar trying to play catch up. Power has been out 24 hours - but considering what it could have been in comparison to New York and New Jersey we faired fairly well on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Have gotten some pixs up on facebook - but haven’t been able to get them onto photobucket yet - we have very limited internet and laptop access at home.

Hope to have power by tomorrow and then will catch up here.

Our prayers and thoughts remain with those who have lost so much.

Mother Slim near Easton lost power for about 18 hours, but was prepared. No major limbs or trees down on the property.

Thanks for your kind thoughts, tomkat. Much appreciated. Glad to assist in disseminating info.

Those of us in hurricane alley certainly understand the strain of storm prep and anxiety of watching and waiting for uncertain fate.

The devastation up north is heartbreaking. Those who escaped with minor inconvenience can breathe a big sigh of relief. Recovery in those areas with catastrophic damage will require great perseverance. Godspeed.

Yesterday the hype was that 20-30 million would be losing power.

The situation in NYC is absolutely heartbreaking.

People are going to HAVE to start moving out soon.

No electric, no water, no sewer, no food, flooded roads, flooded subways, no train (last I heard), airports not in good shape...

They’re going to have to walk or bike.

It’s not a pretty picture. We really need to pray for their protection from looters, criminal element, disease, weather, etc.

Thank you for (re-re-re-?)posting this link. Fujiwhara Effect, eh? I have been out of the loop about the physics of this storm, and now I actually believe I understand it. I applaud the UKMET model teams, and then others, for their brilliant programming, analysis and computation. The BAMM clearly needs reworking, since it was completely clueless as late as Saturday. I have not been exposed to this behavior in weather systems before this hour, though I definitely have seen it in other systems.

Thank you, MetMom, Nelson, and others here for the education.

I ought to also opine that, given the failure of UKMET compared with GFS with Debby earlier, it is clear that both models have some way to go.
