I don't know about your wife's situation but it's not uncommon to stop checking patients who had been cancer free for a substantial length of time. My mother encountered that. It's possible that may be a factor.

Five years is the arbitrary time when they consider you cured. However, my husband lasted nine years after his first cancer operation, and then he died.
