What did Romney bring to the table?

We lost Senate seats, we lost house seats. He brought two states that McCain did not win - Indiana and North Carolina.

We were told, endlessly, that we had to vote for Romney because he was the only one who would not damage the Republican party. This did not happen.

“If Santorum had been nominated in 2012 by the GOP, he would simply have become just another marginal presidential candidate who couldn’t even carry his own state”

Romney failed to win PA, and he failed to win even a single county in his home state (something btw, that has NEVER HAPPENED).

So I repeat - what exactly did Mitt Romney bring to the table? What disaster did we avert by choosing Romney over Santorum?

Please don't misunderstand me here, JCB. I was never a big fan of Romney and said so here on FreeRepublic many times in 2012. My general feeling is that the GOP field as it stood back in January was a complete disaster, and spoke volumes about just how few people of substance with the leadership skills to run a country had any interest in running for the top spot on the ticket.

The general sentiment was that Romney stood the best chance of winning against Obama, and if you go back to the early months of the year you'll find a lot of polling data that supports this.

Having said that, I'd also add that you shouldn't blame Romney for the down-ticket losses this year. When you look at a state like North Dakota -- where the Democratic Senate candidate won in a state where Obama only got 39% of the popular vote -- you clearly have a situation where Republican candidates were completely tone-deaf about the local issues in their jurisdictions.

Don't look at this election from the top down ... look at it from the bottom up. THAT is how the GOP needs to fix its problems.

Look, not ROMNEY nor RYAN even delivered their home states..... that should tell you something about OUR process as well as the electorate. Obama is dynamic to his supporters and base. I liked Mitt and Paul but the lack of pizzaz in a social media world takes it toll... they may be right on most issues but they fail to connect.

You may like or dislike Christie but this is how he won and could keep on winning... You either LOVE or HATE. You need some sort of action to win BIG or maybe LOSE big but being a soft nice guy with a few good ideas is no longer working....
