FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Sunday morning all early votes casted in St. Lucie County will be recounted, Supervisor of Elections Gertrude Walker confirmed to WPTV NewsChannel 5 on Saturday.
The decision was welcomed news for two politicians whose careers hang in the balance.
West for Congress is pleased with the Supervisors decision, as the counting of early votes on Election Night was of great concern to our campaign, given the large shift that occurred at midnight of nearly 4,000 votes, according to a statement released Saturday afternoon by the office of Republican U.S. Rep. Allen West. While we still look forward to reviewing the poll books used to check in voters during early voting and Election day, this recount goes a long way to ensuring an accurate outcome.
West, a freshman congressman, was seeking reelection in the newly formed District 18 against Democrat Patrick Murphy. He contested election results in both St. Lucie County and Palm Beach County. District 18 spans portions of Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties.
Linda Hudson, mayoral candidate for the city of Ft. Pierce, also was happy to hear the recount would take place on Sunday.
The supervisor (of elections) told me that there may have been 1136 votes not counted, Hudson said.
Hudsons opponent, Vince Gaskin, was leading by 21 votes on Friday. The margin was so small that it triggered an automatic recount.
Florida election law has an automatic recount trigger if the margin is within 0.5 percent of the votes.
According to the Palm Beach Post, results of the final but unofficial vote tally completed by Palm Beach County on Saturday, placed Murphy ahead of West by 2,429 votes. Murphy received 166,799 votes to Wests 164,370 in District 18, according to the Post.
The gap between the two men does not trigger an official recount under Florida election law. However, that could change, depending on the results of the recount in St. Lucie County.
The St .Lucie County recount will start at 7 a.m.
Good Luck to Col. West!
Col. West is the only one with the guts to call the Rats on their fraud. Good luck West!
I hope he wins or it’s so close, a recount starts.
God bless Allen. He goes through so much crap from the enemy within.
This is complete BS
In 2012 these crooks are still counting votes like they did 100 years ago.
Completely unacceptable that secure voting procedures haven’t been implemented, the crooked political parties want it to continue like this so they have the opportunity to steal elections.
Voting reform should be the top priority for House Republicans.
this is great news (or at least a good start). Good luck to Col. West.
If West proves fraud and wins it’d be a huge game changer.
Go Col West!
God be with you Col West. Fair and square is what we ask.
*BUMP*
Absolutely great news. I hope Allen West wins and it forces a full district wide recount as well!
They’ll be busy tonight trying to pull 4000 votes out of those machines. Good Luck
I bet SOE Gertrude Walker about had a cow when she found out the Mayoral race meant she had to do a recount!
I doubt that was on her radar when she flipped the 4,000 for Murphy. HA!
“Oh what a tangled web we weave
When first we practice to deceive.” - Sir Walter Scott (Marmion, 1808)
He asked for the votes to be impounded until counting - they weren’t - so they’ve had plenty of time to cover their tracks...
count on it.
West was a top target for removal.
Same counters doing the recount..
The odds of them convicting themselves of voter fraud are ZERO..
Not that there is any evidence left to prove it...
Voting machines have been re-programmed already..
They may find a few “oddities”.. real evidence is gone..
Democrats have been perfecting this bunko for decades..
“The supervisor (of elections) told me that there may have been 1136 votes not counted, Hudson said.”
OH GEE another box of democrat ballots. Its all over now.
What good is a recount when 140% of the population voted? There’s so much fraud the vote is completely corrupted, just like in PA, OH and CO.
