Ah but it’s very humane. If it’s the head the prisoner goes to hospital first and is sedated. If a hand the hospital removes the hand, closes the wound, and then the prisoner is taken to the square on “Saudi Sunday” (Saturday) after prayer and symbolically the hand is chopped off. A number of my AF troops went down to the square to witness the events in the 1980s when I was the Vice Commander of Elf-One (AWACS) in Riyadh.
